I get very cross if I have to wash something on normal price electricity! But then I only put it on a 15 min superquick wash... most things don't need any more (well, sheets and towels do, but not most clothes...) Is that gross?
Re the fire risk, I think anything that's plugged in can be a fire risk - I'd like to say I unplug everything before I go to bed but I don't. My washer and DW run overnight on their own delay buttons, not an external timer plug, which I do think can be less than safe. Just my view.
That's interesting, the using of 20% of electricity overnight, I've been on various tariffs but always with the cheap night rate so I shall have to look at my bills and work out how much I use. I get cross too if have washing machine on in day...what a waste!
I wonder if it's down to the meter whether the tariff is split as I have to give 2 separate figures on my meter reading? There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0 -
Yes, the meters switch over at set times - worth (being a saddo, I did this) standing and watching your meters at about the time you think it happens to see exactly when it is - mine's 0130 to 0830 at the mo, which is ideal as I can take a wash out at 7.15 and get another one done before 8.30. Even maybe do 5 mins tumble drying which is all I allow myself, to take the sharp crispy edges off the towels... But the clock on the meter doesn't change so in winter it's 1230 to 0730 which is not so handy. If you don't have the two meters, you can't get economy 7. I was told they're not installing them anymore but when they changed our meter over recently, they did put a new double one in, so that may not be true. Certainly if you use electricity for water heating or storage heating it would save loads of money.0

My kids have flannels in the bathroom and when they start looking worn out , I use them as cleaning cloths.
I save all our loo roll inners , and use them for lighting the fire in the winter.
We get about 3 charity bags through the door each week
and when I leave them outside to collect they dont bother.
I used to throw them in the bin , but now I turn them inside
out and use them as bin liners.
When I use half a (value) facial wipe at my dressing table , I then use it to dust the bedroom.
Secondry schools seem the place to find money laying around on the floor, my daughter picks up coins everyday because apparently all the kids dont seem to care about money and throw it away , they also dont like to pick it up cos its not cool. However my daughter doesnt mind , she collected £28 in one term and puts it all in a jar in her bedroom ( wonder who she takes after ?) lol.
Also , my friend told me about a family member of hers who on a saturday and sunday morning goes to a spot where lovers are known to go ,after the night clubs (ahem) , he apparently finds lots of money there, where it falls out of the mens trousers ,lol.
Thanks for all the tips everyone.

I'm not too worried, the mouth isn't exactly sterile,is it?I rinse it a bit and let it dry.
I'll ask my dental hygienist her opinion next time, well, that's if I can pluck up the courage!
(It never would have occured to me to ask her).0 -
wonder if you could pour boiling water over the floss to kill germs ?Kindness costs nothing0

EDIT: Note to peeps reading this thread in future - please stop and think about it before using the ideas - a few of the other ideas mentioned recently are also theft actually. Perhaps we ought to have an official "warning" on this thread "WARNING...WARNING...not all the ideas given are legal/honest. Please work out for yourselves which ones arent and don't use them yourselves".
I think people can work out for themselves what is legal/honest or not, and where they will draw the line.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -

I finally got hold of a recipe for it.....not quite as good as the original but it sure brings back memories.
I'm trying to read through the thread & have got up to p16 I think, so if this has been mentioned since then..my apologies! On Victorian Pharmacy on bbc2 the other eveing, they made their own custard powder from cornflour, turmeric for colour & almond essence. Presumably the quantities & things would be on a web site but I haven't looked yet

I never thought of checking when the switch over time is  I just took Eon's word of midnight to 700 and 0100 to 0800. I shall be watching the meter for the exact time. I rushed to get in the shower at 5 to 8 this morning to use the cheaper electric before the switch over but maybe I could have stayed smelly for longer :rotfl:There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0 -

My daughter regularly wears 3 or 4 outfits in a day, especially during school hols.Through constant nagging i have at least got her to put washing in her laundry basket instead of hanging it on the floor, but when I come to sort the washing out the majority of it is still clean and probably only been tried on or at most worn a couple of hours. Now i give it a once over for stains, have a quick sniff and if it looks and smells fine it gets folded and put back in her room.Saves water, electric, and washing powder and she is no wiser.
i probably cut her share of the washing down by at least half this way, and she thinks her mum is super duper efficient as she gets her stuff back washed and folded etc in no time.;)

ha ha i do this with my teen daughters , they try an item of clothes on and think im washing it !!!! they are none the wiser when i fold them up with the clean washing lol
