Tough Love.....

            Hi Oystercatcher,
Lovely to hear from you and hope you are doing ok! He has such a poor attention span that I think a scooter might not be the best option. He has put off learning to drive so many times and has said that it frightens him - which is a relief in many respects cos he has some insight and I would hate for him to be on of those horrific statistics! Im hoping he will learn to drive when he feels mature enough to cope with the demands of the road. Im sure things will pan out but its been a roller-coaster of a weekend!
My son does not drive for exactly those reasons.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
I would just like to make a point that seems to be missed.
Molly41 did help her son to plan his journey. It was pointed out to him that there was not a bus back at the end of the day, and he would have had to walk some considerable amount of miles. (Cant remember without re reading the whole thread).
That Molly41 herself has a very dibilitating health problem, and couldnt be relied on to drive her son.
The reason she wanted DS to continue at college was not just financial, but so that her DS would have a better qualifications at the end of it all, and a better chance at his full time employment later in life.
I think that the critisism has been very biased, and not about the actual facts that Molly did originally put down here.
Molly is a very supportive Mum of her children, but there are some things that they do need to learn the hard way.
I speak as a mum with 4 children, two of which, identical twins who have ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and mild Autism. or as its now more commonly described as Aspergus syndrome. (Due to a test reconised, as the Aspergus scale.).
There are certain things that I will help them out with, and others that I deem that they can do themselves if they tried. So it is a fine divide line between tough love, and cottonwool!.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
