The Vale and Downland Museum in Wantage, Oxfordshire is free to enter.

    ValeAndDownlandMuseum.org.uk

“From fossils to Formula One” is their tag line and they have objects and stories to fascinate all ages. Fossils, artefacts from the local town, King Alfred and a display form the Williams F1 team (featuring an actual F1 car until September 2023).

Plus a cracking cafe serving excellent food and cake.

Highly recommend this beautifully bright & airy, free to visit, independent gallery on the banks of the silvery Tay.
They showcase a wide variety of original work by Scottish contemporary artists, many of who live & work in the area. Displays are regularly evoloving so it's worth keeping going back as there's always something new to see.
Gallery events have included children's book launch & Open Studios.
They've a really handy in-house picture framing workshop attached to the gallery too.

10am opening Monday to Saturday. Closes 5pm early in the week and extending to 11pm Thursday to Saturday.

Free entry to displays. Also hosts paid for events

    Museum nan Eilann

Near Lews Castle. Immersive and artifact based galleries around life, history and archaeology of the Hebrides. Small outpost at Lionacleit on Benbecula.

    10am - 5pm   Tuesday - Saturday in summer

Cafe in ground floor of adjacent Lews Castle.
