Description: The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge is a free Art Gallery, Library and Visitor Information Centre situated in the heart of historic Canterbury.

Collections span from around the world, from ancient Egypt to Bagpuss! A family friendly museum, it often has activities for children.

Has anyone mentioned the World Of Glass museum in St Helen's?

It's free to get in. The carpark is free on Sundays, too.

They only charge for the glass blowing display but at £5 for adults and £3.50 for kids, it's well worth it as the gentleman doing the demonstration was extremely knowledgeable with a good sense of humour and 25 years experience.

Lancshire mining museum at Astley Green, just off the A580 (East Lancashire Rd) on the outskirts of Salford is a good one, too.

Entry is free, as is parking. They accept donations of course but you're not pressured as in fact, not one member of staff asked me to donate.

It was a very peaceful afternoon out as it isn't too busy. Well, it wasn't when I went about three weeks ago.

Please add the Vale and Dowmland Museum in Wantage, Oxfordshire to your list of free museums. It's a fantastic visit, lots to fo for families and in a beautiful setting close to the Ridgeway.

Museum is open Monday- Saturday, 9:30am- 3:45pm, with a great cafe and shop and tourist information. Lots of activities for children in the holidays too.
