just come across this thread and have read every post.
well done screamer you are a wonderful person. and it sounds like your neighbour thinks so too!
my rescued cat was all matted too, but as he was content to sit on my lap while i gently worked the matts out it took a couple of weeks before he was matt free. but worth it as i really didnt like the idea of shaving him. and neither did the vet - he said for abused cats it harmed their self esteem and impeded recovery and showed me how to work the matt free with comb and my fingers.
my OH was furious with me when i showed up out of the blue with my cat - but half hour later (seeing the state the cat was in) was forever after the cats devoted slave!
you have done a wonderful thing, and i am sure you will be rewarded with a loving cat for many years to come.
    blessings on you

Am hoping I've done this right....

You can see all the pics I've taken of her/them so far!! She's a very happy kitty, now minus 2 small mats!!

As for the puppy hethmar, I shall still keep an eye on him but basically I think it's just a case of no matter how much food he gets in him he burns it off. I thought my dog was crazy but this one's like a little whirlwind. I promise though, I will keep an eye on him, and I still give both of their dogs treats every now and then!!
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)

Now that is just the most beautiful puddy... well done you! she looks pretty pleased with herself!! :A
Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.
They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.
