Virgin 0% 9 months + FREE MP3 PLAYER

Well I made my small purchase £1.29 to make sure I got the MP3 player. I worked out that the most it would cost would be 10p-20p in interest.
I know some people have got free gifts from MBNA in the past without spending, just from a BT, but reading the T&Cs it doesn't look like this was guaranteed. Hence MBNA could always change their behaviour in this respect. I thought it was worth 10p-20p to avoid the risk.
As it happens I've stoozed more money via the account, so I don't think I'll pay any interest anyway.

2 reasons....
Its a surefire way of activating the card and triggering the freebie rather than faff about wondering, 2nd guessing and establishing "if" a SBT will achieve the same thing.
....and since it looks like an actual spend...it kind of implies to the credit card lender that the person may just be stupid enough to SBT and action actual spend on the card in the future - hence it doesnt make them think twice about doing a SBT for you. I find revealing too much card debt and existing lenders on the application reveals your situation and hand too much in advance. Yes - I know they can see whats on your credit reference file etc....but for me I find its about getting past the first muppet at the credit lender who opens envelopes and looks at that form when first received who may choose to decline it on view of intended transfers or put it on the alternative APR offering pile on those merits alone...
Obviously some apps "require" you to detail what you wish to transfer on the form but I so far have avoided those types as I really dont think they do you many favours. I could be totally wrong. By following the above steps I know I have created a working re-payment process and everything is in order since I am dealing with a small first test+activation+trigger spend amount that is happily repaid soon....it works for me and kills many birds with a stone or two and is less admin!
WHatever works for the individual I guess.
The only time I have ever been declined a change in credit circumstances is from one provider who refused a credit increase amount on the basis that the multiple "cards" were opened too recently and there was no evidence of repayment just yet. Success each time otherwise.
Who knows how it works...its a mystery whether to reveal or not to reveal existing debt on the apps....! Curious as to what the BIG stoozers do on their apps....?
Do all the BIG stoozers out there choose to reveal a zero or declare the multiple tranferable zeros!!?? ;)

Everybody
I received my MP3 player today and I did not make a purchase - just the BT. Repeat - I did not make a purchase.
As reported earlier by others, the MP3 is a 64mb model and is just the ticket for carrying about on the tube or train.
It took a couple of months to arrive but is pretty good for a freebie!!Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000

Just wanted to thank Martins Love Child for the link in the original post. I applied for a Virgin card using the link a couple of months ago and forgot all about the MP3 player. I was away this weekend but when I got back the Post Office were holding a parcel for me which turned out to be the MP3 player.
I've had a bit of a mess about with it and Windows XP does indeed see it as a Flash Drive sort of device - dragging and dropping is a piece of cake.
Also, the best combination of compression/sound quality I've come across so far is using the WMA format at 64Kb/s. It sounds good (far better than MP3 at 64Kb/s) and you can cram about 30-35 tracks onto the player ;D
By the way, I've not made any purchases on the card - just a couple of BT's

I received mine the other day too. The manual is hilarious.
I have quite a few MP3 files encoded at 128bps or greater - what is the easiest and cheapest way of converting multiple MP3s to WMA at 64kbps ?0 -
Hi wibbleI have quite a few MP3 files encoded at 128bps or greater - what is the easiest and cheapest way of converting multiple MP3s to WMA at 64kbps ?
I use Nero Burning ROM to do the encoding coupled with a plugin from http://neroplugins.cd-rw.org. The WMA plugin is the fifth one down
.
I'm not all that savvy when it comes to audio compression formats but when comparing WMA at 64Kb/s with MP3 at 64Kb/s, the difference is really noticable. This space has been intentionally left blank0
