Virgin 0% 9 months + FREE MP3 PLAYER

The Virgin card is basically run by MBNA. If you normally apply online, you'll receive 9 months 0%. However, use this link

https://www.virgin.com/vmJuly4

and you'll additionally receive a free MP3 player.

You need to apply by 26 August and use the card at least once by 14 October. They'll send the MP3 player through 28 days after the date of the first transaction. Not sure if a BT counts as a transaction but my partner received the free CD player in another offer after doing a BT so it's worth a try.
Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
Mortgage July 2007 - £0
Original Mortgage Termination Date - Nov 2018
Mortgage Interest saved - £63790.60
ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)

What are MBNA like if you already have one of their cards via a different provider, Abbey in my case? Would I be wasting my time (and credit score) applying for one of these cards?

Very nice - although I've done my applications for this month.
    Nice spot though.

What size is it? I would guess a cheapy 64MB worth £50, not bad for a freebie though.

Hmmm. Not really sure about that. However, I would imagine that although they may consider (and possibly approve) your application, they may then look to limit the total borrowing amount across both cards which may result in a small limit on the virgin card.

    Possibly worth a try though.

Yup. Looks like one of the keyfob-type MP3's rather than an iPod (which would have been very nice, let's face it). Not bad for free though! My holiday's coming up and it will certainly come in rather handy at a certain chair next to the pool...

I think it depends on how long you leave in between applications for MBNA. I applied for an MBNA platinum plus card last month. This month I applied for the Virgin Card (too soon in hindsight). Virgin told me that they could give me a card, but 'cos I'd only just been approved for an MBNA platinum card, they could only give me a minimum credit limit of £1000 for Virgin.

Apparently MBNA have a policy of only giving 20% of your gross annual income on initial application (but can increase later on). My MBNA credit limit was already over this 20% limit because they were trying to be competitive with my Egg Card.

The picture looks like a Mercury IXA 321i which is described here: http://www.mercurystyle.com/specs-ixa.php?lang=english&alias=321i

Of course it could be a different (older? discontinued? specially commissioned?) model and they do reserve the right to send you a different one anyway. If it is this one it has 128Mb internal memory, I don't think this can be added to with memory cards. Pixmania have them for £56 (inc VAT).

    thanks, just applied

Dont think I'll be successful....as I have been knocked back a bit recently by some companies AND with MBNA taking over various cards I have a combined credit limit of £20,000+ with them :o:o

For some of the answers, refer to thread

'MBNA will give anyone a card'
  • Seems a good offer, can anyone confirm whether the Balance Transfer counts as the purchase to get the MP3 player? And if not would making a small purchase to get the MP3 player push the rate up or anything?

    Thanks :)
