does he not wear a nappy? I know this could feel a bit degrading but they are discreet. My grandmother is incontinent and we use these pad things which usually catch everything (somtimes there is a leak but not that often).

I can only think about how upsetting this must be for him...

    good luck!

He is only 38 now, would you want to wear a nappy to go to work (that is not a sarcastic reply just a genuine question, incase it comes across as sarcastic)? If he was 78 and not working then nappies probably would be ok. He does have incontinence pads delivered every month which are like mattress thick sanitary towels, but because he has no nerve endings reaching his bladder, if he doesn't visit a toilet every 30 minutes he just overflows.

His surgery involved a pioneering bionic valve which is activated by use of an implanted button in his nether regions, but as he has no sensation of wanting to use the toilet accidents happen all the time.

If it were me I would be sat at home, but he wants to work and enjoys working.

DEFINATELY appeal it - if within the time limit! Once the appeal is registered then it will give time for more supporting information to be collected. Keeping a diary helps, how often, how long it takes to sort things out ..... I know they feel like all of the negatives but that is what you have to focus on.

Never talk about good days and bad days focus on the days as better and bad. After all this worry of maybe having a problem is as bad as the actual accidents themselves.

It saps your inner strength, your self-worth and also makes you feel really down as there appears to be nothing else but this to look forward to.

Only somebody who has gone through the same problems can only really understand waht it is like to live with the nagging fear each and every day and night - but there is help, it is just finding the right medic who understands and will look for a solution.

Wearing a nappy if your are 8, 38 or 78 is horrible. You feel second class as well as totally worthless and that you are alone. You also feel angry and you have every right to feel that way.

The people who have made comments about being awarded a Blue Badge or any other comments are not worth reading. The whole way that BB's are awarded do seem to be totally strange and it makes those who have been refused angry about those who have been successful.

Ignore those replies - just concentrate it getting as much information that you can to assist a young man who needs as much support as possible.

Never take second best, never take NO and NEVER GIVE UP!

  • If he has care and/or mobility needs he can apply for DLA.

I personally can quite see why he should need a blue badge.

me too what a dreadfull condition and on these forums there are too manty people ready to condem people for claiming dla thinking ther condition is more worthy than someone elses.he should appeal at 38 it must be no joy having a horrible condition and he must be entitled to at least the care component.
Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)
  • I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone for your kindness and compassion over what is a fairly debillatating and embarrassing problem for the person involved.

I would also like to give a special mention to Sunnyone for her comments, and also to Oldernotwiser who agreed and thanked a poster for suggesting a 38 year old man wear a nappy. I thanked that poster in error for his nappy post.

God forbid one of your loved ones are born with such problems, and I am sure if they were then you would not be packing them off to work in a nappy at 38 years of age. He works full time and always has, maybe you should show some empathy and compassion to people less fortunate than yourselves.
  • Poor man, send him my regards and i do hope his DLA can be reconsidered.

I've seen adverts in those little Innovations type brochures for discreet incontinence pants, suitable for men or women (buy the appropriate type). Has he not tried these?

Thanks for that Bogof_Babe, he receives every month boxes of incontinence pads free from the NHS, which are delivered to his home.
