aww thanks for that i have always wondered what the d stood for but generally worked out the second bit lol!
anyhows i went to try on dresses today and im sooo disapointed. As i mentioned before i dont want a strapless dress and there wasnt a single one in the whold shop which had straps. Where else are you going to go into a shop with over a hundred dresses in the same style? they had extra ones in which are 'just of the catwalks' which was why i went and after i had tried them on the woman who owned the place tried to get me to buy something when i hadnt even got dressed yet! didnt wanna stand in my underware n get talked into a dress i didnt want - and she was practically bullying the other girl in the shop in to buying.thankfully that wasnt the wonman i tried stuff on with.
Anyhows back to the dresses - there was a few which were nice ones on but that was all they were just nice you need to love your wedding dress. The woman kept going on about the dresses not being in my size and so they werent fitting my bust properly. One of them even looked painful (to quote my mum ) cause my chest was like falling out of the top. she also kept going on about adding straps to the dresses but thats not really the point - i wanted a different style. And at one point i was left in my underware for about 15/20 min while she checked something out for another woman!
Overall it wasnt the best experience and im a bit gutted they didnt even have 1 dress with straps - its the style i want not just adding straps.0 -
oh and i def think theres a thing for starting a i 'disagree strongly' aka hate my mother in law to be.
Im not expecting anything from my ohs family as we didnt even get an engagement card (i have mentioned this before) and his mother went spare when we decided to move in (and his family all support her cause shes a nutcase so just agree with her) and while my parents have offered to help i feel a bit guilty as they dont have lotsa cash to spare.
The anticipated response from my ohs family is 'where you gona get the money from' and then moan about everything we do on the day.
right rand over! how are the rest of you getting on?0 -

and frannyann im sure your dress looks fab - i believe it was strappless which would just look rediculous on me and id spend the whole day worrying about it falling down or me falling out! lol
is it just a case of stepping into the dress? how much 'help' do they give you?
I am a bit worried about it 'falling down' as I don't have the ahem 'assets' to fill it up
For me, they got the dress ready I just stood there and they sort of 'put' the dress around me, then tweaked until it look amazing! They didn't even blink when I started haggling the price whilst still wearing it:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
I'm going to ask a really stupid question now but when you say DF or DS or DD - what does it stand for?
There are also quite a few others that i don't know what they stand for! But manage to work some of them out!
Sorry, me having a blonde moment!!!
Hello, not a silly question at all, its shorthand for Darling fiance, darling son or in my case 'dopey' daughter:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

My mum thought LOL was 'lots of love' for ages, only realised when she commented how often I sent her 'lots of love' on text messages:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

theres a few on here whove had bad experiences but then found 'the two' the perfesct dress and shop!
what about ringing round afew places before you go to make sure they have strapped dresses
that way you can check if theyre nice or not on the phone and you may not be dissapointed when you get there
failing that is there a dressmaker(cough linda cough)near you that could help you out?i know shes in the yorkshire area but isnt free til after november!I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -

yea i think i will be phoning round in future - when i asked at the wedding show i booked the appoinment at i was told they have lots of different types of dresses and new styles coming in - the new styles were all 8's (the other girl there was a size 12 and even she couldnt get into them) so i didnt even get shown any of them.
Im not getting married until july 2012 and im prob going to end up buying something of ebay or getting a dressmaker. I cant justify the money for something thats not perfect and even then id be reluctant. Id still like to try a dress on thats the style i want in a shop beforehand though.
Id love to get linda - she must be very busy and good to be booked up till november but i live in hamilton in scotland so not much chance of that - theres someone local though and im thinking about calling them and asking nearer the time.
Franny im sure you have all the assests you need lmao (laughing my a** of to translate ) i was kindly informed that the boning holds everything in and even if you had straps this wouldnt help so im sure youl be great. Important thing is you love the dress i just dont suit strapless!0 -
I've got my fingers crossed for you all, but I will no longer be taking part in this thread.
OH has changed his mind!
Take care brides and grooms, and I hope all your wishes come true! xxYaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)0 -
OMG screamer im sooo sorry:(
