I had no fireguards/stairgates or baby cages with DD but she was content to play where I put her at K's age, he is not, he wants to throw himself around and get into everything.

Thank you to all who made suggestions.

I somehow didn't have stair gates when DS & DD1 were little. (Until they could get out of bed/cots - then I put one on their bedroom door).

Maybe now I've got one because i'm [STRIKE]lazy[/STRIKE] old and cba getting up every two minutes to get her back down the stairs. :rotfl:

In fact, I probably only have the stair gate now because MIL went out and bought it when I was first pregnant!

  • Hi XL - what did you decide was a suitable punishment/course of action for your son?

Sami If its for ttc, send the boys to your parents, and pretend you're going away, then spend a long weekend in bed. ;) You don't want to waste valuable mating time travelling. :rotfl:

    Scruff Hope you're ok hunny.
lol, I want to resist the urge to just jump him at every oportunity though, we're gonna be trying for a girl using Tara's book (not written by Tara but used by Tara and passed on;)) we're gonna tell everyone it's our late honeymoon though I know #3 will rock the boat even more than #1 and 2 did :o/:p

Rome can be a bit of a hellhole in the height of summer because of all the heat and the tourists and such. But if you're splurging on the hotel I know a very romantic one I can recommend (we went there on our honeymoon), it's about < > this far from the Trevi Fountain on a quiet side street and is one of three rooms in an apartment where the guy turns up to check you in and give you keys and then you only see him when he brings in breakfast. There's an excellent restaurant right downstairs too.

    Hugs for scruffy :grouphug:
hmm I was worried about that, maybe Rome is best for when we can go in spring/autumn :undecided I'm not good in hot weather

Well I'm not at the meet (obv :p) I was up half the night with horrible tummy ache, kept going all hot, sweaty n wibberly headed then needing the loo, no throwing up though but tbh I'd rather throw up once n feel better than feel sick for ages!

csh I'd just chuck him in his cot to go the loo, or is the cot only for sleeping in your house?
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

csh, I didnt mean it sound as if I was thinking that you were silly to be bayproofing = i cant fidn the right words to say what i mean.
I know what you mean, Christopher is just over a week older than K.
I suppose when I think about it, I do have stairgates in place, and I did have a playpen in the living room for about a week (until it got on my nerves cos it looked untidy). I hope you didnt take offence.

Nope K is 6 months tomorrow. No offence taken just feel like what I asked has been taken out of context a bit.

He can get out of the baby nest, hence my question. Which was only what can I put him in now he's too big and clever for chair and nest.

Seems a bit extreme to put him upstairs in his cot everytime I need to use the loo as the loo is downstairs :p
  • Hello all. I have been having a little read but not posting - as soon as I log in I am a wanted Mummy!!

Csh, were you asking about Pumpkin Patch? I ordered a few times last year and I'm pretty sure the postmark was Australia or NZ! Might take a little while for the order to come through...

Sami, I have so far avoided Rome but DH wants to go possibly for our 10th anniv (in 2ys!!). Everyone always has pickpocket, horrid hotels, too many people stories to tell. I recommend Venice or Florence :). SS, how much is your idea of splashing out on a hotel? Yours sounds wonderful!

csh - it sounds like your littel one is just like mine. She was mobile so early and watned to investigate things, but didn't have any fear (she still doen't!). I made the sitting room as safe as possible and had her in there surrounded by favourite toys if I needed some peace or go elsewhere. TV also used to keep her attention for just enough time to nip to the loo or make dinner/lunch/etc.

I also used to take her with me when I did stuff and had different toys - we still have special car toys she only gets when in the car. It makes it more fun and interesting for them that way I think.

DOn't worry - it's just a phase (I may yet write a book called that!), soon it'll be how can you stop him from following you everywhere :D

thanks for the cup recommendations - Annabel doesn't seem that enamoured by her new cup but is slowly getting the hang of it - it is definitely harder than a normal straw and carton!

buggy purchase advice needed! okay ladies you pushchair adicts have another to add to your midst. I'm buying a stroller for using on holidays/bus journeys and when I don't want to take my bugaboo cameleon. I've decided on a MacLaren Quest. Mothercare have a promotion on and John Lewis have price matched it for £125. At motherare I can get a further 10% off using a code and free delivery. I have £45 of JL vouchers and get free delivery. However the colour way I really wanted is being discontinued and more expensive at £150 (not on promotion) but could still use either set of vouchers. However, I've now just found the design I want online at a reputable shop for £125 (but have no money off promotions or vouchers to use).

Now, I can afford to spend the full amount, but love to think I've got a really good deal/bargain/saved what I can.

    what would you ladies do??????

It’s the same debate as the other day. It’s not about wrapping your baby in cotton wool, it’s about doing your own risk assessment and being happy with what you choose to do. Holly is not and won’t be wrapped in cotton wool. She is exposed to plenty of germs and gets lots of rough and tumble play (too much if DH is in charge!). But if I was leaving an active baby in the room by his/herself, I would want to minimise the risks.
I have a travel cot, and would definitely consider using it as a playpen when making dinner etc. But I would be happy for her to crawl around and explore when I am free so I can keep an eye on her. I don’t want her to have an unnecessary accident and cause her pain because I didn’t bother. I would be very upset with myself. Accidents happen, but I don’t want to contribute to it. And I have an open plan house so can’t shut doors as easily so will definitely have stair gates installed.

Anyway, I have a lazy baby so don’t have this problem at the moment. But one day she will catch me out!!!!

Sami What does Tara's book tell you to do?

Speaking of Tara - has anyone heard from her? Is she still having internet problems?
