Agree in principle with free range baby but hes only six months and I do sometimes need to use the toilet and whatever!
I don't trust him unattended in the highchair either.
Just would rather not have a baby cage from so young but will prob get one eventually!
Just having one of those 'I need a minute to myself' days. I'm only on here cos DD is off school and rolling about the floor with him!
I'd have thought a cage is one of those things you'd have to use from young. My thinking is that if you wait til they're bigger and more independant, they'd dislike suddenly being restricted.
V is free range. I have a gate on the bottom of the stairs, make sure the bathroom door (its downstairs ) is closed, and she's pretty much free to roam.
I think i'm going to attempt to clip J's hair while we're alone.
It's my (& his) least favorite thing, but desperately needs doing. :beer:0 -

LOL - it makes me smile how I am victorian mum in some ways and 'let em do what they want' mum in other ways! Other than a fireguard and some soft corners on sharp edges I haven't baby proofed and if I do pop to the loo then Benjamin is left to it, always has been, and he was crawling at 5 1/2 months!
Although TBH, other than 60 seconds to pop in the downstairs loo, I mostly either waited until he was asleep or took him with me wherever I was going!please listen to MFD - she is a wise woman

I don't 'babyproof' either.. I don't have a fireguard, corners are there to bump yourself on lol.. no stair gates.. they'd be impossible to fit anyway.. but once they learn to go up the stairs I teach them to come down so less likely to fall.. the only person ever to fall down our stairs.. is me!! I did it twice in a week a few months ago lol.
When I went to the loo I'd just shut the door of the room they were in and they'd potter about.. or scream until I got back.. they won't explode from a bit of wailing.
Though it seems the worst falls the children have had have been when they were being looked after by dad! Tiddles fell down the back step and skinned her entire nose and DS1 bumped his head on the table at MIL's and had the biggest lump ever! But.. they fix!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I don't baby proof. I Christopher proof. Much, much worse. I caught him chewing the table earlier. Just sitting there gnawing away.0

i dont babyproof much; we have a fireguard, but it sits behind the sofa collecting dust. even when we have the fire on at night, no fireguard on - we taught katie and in process of teaching christopher that you dont go near it.
Christophers fav at the minute is trying to chew on the laptop charger wire. he gets so upset when you tell him no and bring him away from it...
whats everyone having for lunch!? I want something really lovely.....I missed breakfast this morning.Carla-Farla!!

Ok sorry. Didn't mean to start a 'baby proofing' debate. Hes not wrapped in cotton wool and he never will be but at the same time, if he falls on his face when hes unattended it will hurt. I'm only trying to avoid that.
It'd be different if he was 9/10 mths with more awareness of his own limitations and more steady at sitting but he is only small and fearless.
I had no fireguards/stairgates or baby cages with DD but she was content to play where I put her at K's age, he is not, he wants to throw himself around and get into everything.
Thank you to all who made suggestions.0 -

DD 'eats' things. She chewed the ball from the mouse on the PC and put it back all gnawed up then denied it!! She's always got something in her mouth!0 -

You know how we like to see how everybody else does things! It just so happens that you are here with slack mummies at the moment - all the protective mummies must be in Manchester
...and Benjamin still has no awareness of his limitations at 13 months! Hubby held him up the other day and he grabbed onto the light fitting and wouldn't let go!! I had to get a chair to release his grip :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:please listen to MFD - she is a wise woman

csh, I didnt mean it sound as if I was thinking that you were silly to be bayproofing = i cant fidn the right words to say what i mean.
I know what you mean, Christopher is just over a week older than K.
I suppose when I think about it, I do have stairgates in place, and I did have a playpen in the living room for about a week (until it got on my nerves cos it looked untidy). I hope you didnt take offence.Carla-Farla!!
