So when does the enforced sterilisation kick in? After six months on JSA? 3 months of housing benefit? Will people who've been to a few job interviews be allowed a reprieve?

Maybe in cases such as the one below.
I worked with a girl who had a baby 2weeks beore I had my 2nd. When bubba was about a month old, she gave up her tenancy in her privately rented flat and declared herself homeless. She then planned for her OH to get the sack from work and got the HV involved to write letters for her to the housing dept to make sure she got a brand new flat. Now, they are sitting pretty in their flat getting everything paid for them...it disgusts me

BTW I am joking, I defenitly don't condone mass sterilisation.
  • I found it strange to me because i want children and they don't. Thats it! i don't feel sorry for them or anything i just didn't understand their choice they couldn't explain it, so the comments on here have helped me a little more.

Joking or not, I really don't like that kind of comment. Yes, there are bound to be people who play the system, but the system exists because there are far far more people who fall on hard times or aren't as able as others to cope and genuinely need help. This doesn't make them some sort of subhuman underclass.

I think some people see it as strange as, to them, having children is a wonderful, joyous experience and it's hard for them to understand why someone else wouldn't want that.

It doesn't always occur to them that other people might not view things in the same way as them, especially as it is widely thought of as 'the most natural thing in the world'. (And i'm not saying that anyone who chooses not to have children is unnatural).

Personally, I am currently child free by choice, but......I do want them in the near future.

Just as some people find it hard to imagine life with a child, I find it hard to imagine my life without one.

Oh and Venus (I hope I've picked out the right user) - it's not just kids that people are judged about. I had an old friend who married quite young and every time I saw her after that when I was still single, her and her OH would give me the 3rd degree for not being married yet! I was 22!!! It was like, in her eyes, my life was incomplete without a man on my arm and every accomplishment in other areas of my life were completely disregarded. Go figure! I hear they're actually heading for divorce right now due to disagreeing on the whole kids thing. He wants them, she doesn't.

I refuse to get married...I won't do it now or in the future...I don't think you need a piece of paper and your OH's surname to be happy!

And when did I say anything about a subhuman underclass ? No I made light of someone elses comments about sterilisation and had a bit of a rant about the spongers who do not want to work and just want to play the system and claim the maxiumum ammount they can.

You don't have to imagine, just read the thread!

I'm currently cfbc but I'm of the 'never say never' school of thought as I do know a few people who swore they never wanted kids and then their feelings changed at some point and they desperately wanted them. I don't want to have been really vocal about never ever having them and then have to put up with people saying 'I told you so' if I ever do change my mind!

Right now, I have no maternal instincts at all, babies seem like pointless blobs to me and I find it hard to interact with children of any age up to about 15! I used to have pet rats and they made far more sense to me so maybe its best I remain childfree!

I'm about to become an auntie so will be babysitting/spending time with a baby for the first time ever which may have an effect.
