i reserve my right to label your stance misopedic and possibly phobic. btw i never said bitter or twisted - those are your own emotive terms.

i don't think you should have children. where on earth did i say anywhere that people should have children (especially if they don't want to)?

Wow - you're patronising aren't you? Label my 'stance' what you like - only bear in mind it's not a stance. It's what I feel, who I am - not a point of view I've adopted by choice.

yes your dislike of children may well not be a choice. people have said the same about racism.

the lack of free will doesn't necessarily make it a positive or more attractive outlook though.

Are you comparing disliking children to racism now?

Just add it to the list of offensive words that you continue to throw around.

    .

in that they are both a form of prejudice against a group of people for a characteristic over which they have no control - yes.

    rac·ism

       /ˈreɪthinsp.pngsɪzthinsp.pngəm/ dictionary_questionbutton_default.gif Show Spelled[rey-siz-uhthinsp.pngm] dictionary_questionbutton_default.gif Show IPA
–noun 1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

    2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

    3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

So how exactly is disliking children the same as any of that?

For starters, children aren't a race.

oh dear. i haven't said that children are a race or that disliking children is racist. i said that racism and a dislike of chidren are both a form of prejudice against a group of people on the basis of a particular characteristic. not the SAME characteristic.

Sorry but this intrigues me. How can a baby be sinister?

Ninky, I'm glad you've switched from using misanthrope to misopede.

I'm going to try and explain one more time.

Children as a group have a characteristic in common, which is that they aren't adults and often don't share adult interests. Most of them are not as mature as most adults and their behaviour is different. I am generalising because there are exceptions to every rule and obviously some people mature sooner or later than others.

I don't hate or even especially dislike children. I dislike spending time with them.

I also don't generally enjoy spending time with people who have radically different political views to my own, or people whose personality clashes with mine. I don't hate them, I just avoid them because they don't make me happy and aren't a good way for me to spend my time, in my opinion.

Child free people aren't like Roald Dahl's witches! Getting together to plot the downfall of the local boys and girls! We just generally prefer adult company.

Woah, what a strange turn this thread's taken since i last looked! It's gone from acceptance, grudging tolerance to outright condemnation! (I knew it was lurking there somewhere)

As far as misanthropy goes, that is so bizarre I'm not sure it's worth commenting on really. Although it does make the assumption that this is inherantly bad. Seeing as some of the greatest thinkers and artists of our time would be classed as misanthropes I will take it as the compliment it actually is.
