Anyone Child Free By Choice?

i'd say not liking children per se is a form of misanthropy.
not liking children is very different to not wanting children. it is possible to not want children but not dislike them. children, like adults, are all individuals. therefore i don't see how it is possible to not like all of them unless you are a misanthrope of some sort.i didn't say it was impossible. merely that it was a form of misanthropy.
it's not a moral judgement. merely an observation.
some people don't like women either.do you think this is some sort of phobic reaction? i mean that seriously. it's one thing to not seek out the company of babies. it's another thing to say they make you cringe. there is no rational explanation for it.
as for those who say they only like people once they reach legal adulthood, isn't that rather closed-minded? legal adulthood is such a culturally imposed phenomena. some people are able to have more philosophically rounded conversation at 12 than others are able to have at 40.
Just wanted to remind you of some of the things you'd said in this thread ninky.
I love the fishing analogy, would be nice if everybody could live like that regarding other people's choices, whatever they may be. A lot of people on this thread would probably be much happier for it!0 -
er, saying that an opinion expressed suggests misanthropy or phobia is not the same as saying cfbc people are misanthropic or phobic.
if a single bachelor suggests that all women make him cringe i might argue that that viewpoint is misogynistic. that is not at all the same as saying all single bachelors are misogynists. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
I'd love to claim credit for the anaolgy Person_One but its my OHs
Nice wriggle Ninky - but since I didn't specify what I dont like about children how can you then have enough information to label my viewpoint as misanthropic or phobic?
I think its great you are CFBC if thats the choice that makes you happy, but I dont see why you need to attack other peoples reasons for the same choice but different reasons - surely if their reasons are enough that being CFBC makes them happy then the rest isnt really any of your business? And labelling their reasons where they've given them is really unfair.0 -

.
okay so if someone says "i don't like women" or "i don't like asians", do i need to know why they don't in order to label them sexist or racist? i don't think so.Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
but i'm child free by choice myself.
no one is saying CFBC people are phobic misanthropes. but they are capable of being - so are some people who choose to have children.
Then I think it's even worse that you've chosen to use the kind of words you have in your previous threads. Surely you would be aware that some people might find the language you've used offensive?0 -

labels are a form of language. i notice that some people don't mind using labels such as "breeders".
to make a statement such as "i don't like children" is clearly misopedic - and no doubt offensive to many. if people find it offensive for me to use that term then they will just have to be offended.
i'm beginning to see why some on here prefer the company of animals - they can't handle critical opinions. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

That's such a defensive response.
I'm quite happy, as are many others, to hear critical opinions, however when you're voicing your critical opinion and someone tells you they find it offensive, it is usual to take that onboard and refrain from offending, unless of course that's how you get your kicks?
As I've said before, if people can give it out then they can take it back, simple.
And if you want to get really in to a language debate, if some people on here prefer the company of animals, aren't humans animals? You've kind of messed up your own critical opinion there.0 -

I think I'm the bitter, twisted old misopede that has precipitated some of this. Perhaps you think I should seek therapy? Grow to like babies and young children? Maybe get to want one of my own? Fair enough - you're entitled to your view. But I like people in general - I have many friends, lovely colleagues and family and a happy, useful, productive, higher-rate tax-paying life. All I do is avoid children and people who are interested in children - I find them dull, dull, dull and I find babies sinister and repellent. I can't quite bring myself to apologise for that: it's the way I'm made.May NSDs 10/11 (Feb 8/10, Mar 11/10, April 11/11)May save on lunches challenge 12/18 (Feb 16/16, Mar 20/20, April 18/18)0 -

no one is asking you to apologise. i am not offended. but i reserve my right to label your stance misopedic and possibly phobic. btw i never said bitter or twisted - those are your own emotive terms.
i don't think you should have children. where on earth did i say anywhere that people should have children (especially if they don't want to)?
@bubblymumbles. yes humans are animals. read straw dogs and all that. i guess i meant nonhuman animals. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0
