Anyone Child Free By Choice?

Everything.
See, now I have children and can fully understand that..
Children are dirty, noisy, messy uncivilised blobs of demandingness.. They take years to house train and even longer to become productive.
I actually do like my own children.. despite the above, but other peoples children make me curl at the edges.
I would never have chosen to not have children but I would fully respect someone elses decision not to as I would expect them to respect my decision. I think it would open a few discussions though about our different choices in life and our differing goals.
A family member and her husband chose to not have children and have no interest in mine.. fair enough.. their reasons were that the world is an unpleasant place and they did not want any offspring to live with the evils of the planet.. So there are other reasons other than the vileness of juvenile humans.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I am also CFBC
My OH doesnt want any children either which is great.
I also do not like children, in fact I go out of my way to avoid them if I can...if people find it odd thats fine with me (maybe it is odd?), but I wish they wouldnt feel the need to come on here and demand we explain ourselves to them - you dont get it, thats fine, no problem, but thats your failing not mine.
I can see many reasons for others to want children, but they dont apply to me and luckily I live in an age when I have a choice on the matter.0 -
I distinctly remember the stony silence and being looked at as if I had just announced I was a huge supporter of Hitler's ideals when a friend invited me out of the nice, warm house where the wine was flowing to go see her huge, frightening horse in his field and my response was 'no thanks, I'm not really interested'.
In most situations where one has a disinterest in other people's possessions or choices, I have found it's better just to keep quiet rather than speak the truth.
Or, to speak up if I fancy being controversial and causing a stink. :rotfl:0 -
I think it is a generalisation, like any other group of people children differ greatly in their personalities. You don't hear any one saying "I don't like old people or I don't like people with red hair"
Some people seem to assume that all children are rude and badly behaved, but there are plenty of children who are generally polite and well behaved and there are some adults who are badly behaved, even though they're old enough to behave.
Out of interest, what exactly is it that you dislike about them?
My cat on the other hand doesn't want to know most of the time. She has a flap, her bowl is full and only needs filling once every couple of days, she occasionally wants a cuddle in the evening.
Living with a cat is like living with another adult - we say hello in passing and occasionally watch a dvd together, living with a dog is more like a child, and I don't want that.
That doesn't mean that there aren't nice dogs and not nice dogs, quiet dogs and noisy dogs...Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -
If you don't want children , then I think great enjoy your life. I can't understand why people think your odd, or that you have something wrong with you.
I think those people who have children, and clearly don't want them, scream at them in super markets etc are the odd selfish ones. There are far to many of these people about.
I have two children, and love spending my time with them. If I did not feel like this I would not have had any.LBM Total: £33356 15/11/09  £6085.63 paid

I'm child free by choice. However, for a few reasons; I've mostly always worked away (offshore and/or overseas) and did not like the idea of not being there to bring them up. Also of course this working style brings its own pressures to a relationship (in my experience, very high divorce rate). Another reason (probably the biggest), is that I have had an hereditary desease from birth, and I did not want to risk passing it on. I've always loved kids and would dearly love to have had some. I spent as much time as I could with my brothers and sisters kids and spoilt 'em rotten. My missus always says that I love them so much because I can give them back!Marching On Together
I've upped my standards...so up yours!0 -
i'd say not liking children per se is a form of misanthropy.
not liking children is very different to not wanting children. it is possible to not want children but not dislike them. children, like adults, are all individuals. therefore i don't see how it is possible to not like all of them unless you are a misanthrope of some sort. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

I told you it is possible - I dont like children, any children, a number of other people on here have said the same
You are as bad as people saying 'oh you'll change your mind' - look you dont get it and you dont feel the same - thats fine, say that - dont just assume that we are wrong about the way we feel because 'we havent met the right child yet'.
I dont like children, I also dont want to have any children - partly because I wouldnt bring something into the world I couldnt love.
Plenty of people like children, plenty of people have children - the two arent mutally exclusive, but they do often go together (thankfully!). So I dont see why the reverse is 'impossible'.0 -

So what's wrong with that anyway?0 -

i didn't say it was impossible. merely that it was a form of misanthropy.
it's not a moral judgement. merely an observation.
some people don't like women either. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0
