Anyone Child Free By Choice?

For me, it is because of the lack of respect for a significant portion of society. To say one does not like children is saying 'I don't like what we all used to be', which for starters I think is somewhat odd and a little worrying from a life perspective.
It is also a sweeping generalisation that really can't be true. Is it really possible to dislike all children? I doubt it. What I would find more believable is people who say they dislike children not really knowing many well or having only experienced the downsides of children. You have to know what you are speaking about to comitt to liking it after all.
Having responded I'm in two minds whether to post, since I'm not the least bit interested in persuading others to like children or have them really. You need to be 110% into having them to do a half decent job in raising them. Each to their own etc.
Can you explain to me how it's odd and worrying from a life perspective to say that you dont like children? So what if I used to be a kid and I don't like them now? What's wrong with that? Why is that odd?
I don't think it is a sweeping generalisation at all. I don't like kids, some people don't like animals, or eating meat or the colour blue, are they odd and causing worry from a life perspective as well?
I think it's odd that you would post your thread then say you're not interested in persuading other to like children or have them, why would you post what you did in a CF thread then?0 -
I have to say I do not like children and I'm very uncomfortable around them. So it has become that my friends think it hilarious to get their childern to constantly pester me when with them.0

On what basis is it not a sweeping generalisation?
To answer a couple of other points:
- I posted to offer my alternative take on what someone assumed others feel. I was saying it wasn't how I felt and explained why. You clearly don't agree, that's fine.
- I didn't say there was anything wrong with the opinion expressed, just that I think it's odd.
- I accept that you don't believe me when I say that I'm not interested in persuading others to have children. But I have to wonder why you can't take my word at face value (despite the thread) and assume that I must be lying. You don't even know me. Can CFBC people not be interested in why other people choose to have children?
Interestingly, I have never heard anyone say they don't like animals. A lot of people don't like cats or dogs or snakes, but all animals; really? Not liking something is completely different to being neutral to it.0 -
I think it is a generalisation, like any other group of people children differ greatly in their personalities. You don't hear any one saying "I don't like old people or I don't like people with red hair"
Some people seem to assume that all children are rude and badly behaved, but there are plenty of children who are generally polite and well behaved and there are some adults who are badly behaved, even though they're old enough to behave.
Out of interest, what exactly is it that you dislike about them?0 -
They're increadibly unpredictable and demand constant attention.0

They're increadibly unpredictable and demand constant attention.
True. And that's the upside.
Actually I think less than half demand constant attention. And some are very, very predictable; you can spot the adults that were those children.
Personally I believe in routine being the cancer of time.0 -

I don't need a routine but I do need to be organised or I can't cope.. lol
I'm such a control freak, Its prob half the reason I don't like children apart from having absolutly no maternal instinct whatsoever.0 -

Well on what basis is it a sweeping generalisation? I don't like kids, I don't like dogs, I don't like eating meat, I don't like summer, they're all valid sweeping generalisations as well, are they odd and worrying from a life perspective, and I'm still interested to know what that means?
See it's the odd thing again that bothers me, I think it's odd that people like kids, both viewpoints are equally as valid, why is our odd and worrying?
I don't know where you get that i think you're lying from, i don't believe I allued to any such thing, I merely said it was odd.
and to be honest, no, I'm not the slightest bit interested in why people choose to breed. I have my opinions as to why i believe they do but I don't really care about their reasons, I just think it's all rather odd.
and my best friend, who is also CFBC hates animals, all animals, and she's not the only person I've come across who doesn't like animals, i don't see why that's hard to believe?0 -
