  • There used to be a good thread about having a baby "Oldstyle" on that board (I think Ancasta started it) which discussed everything you needed and definitely didn't need, but I'm afraid Baby D wasn't even a twinkle in our eyes then so I failed to take much notice! Anyone know where it is now? As a first timer at this and almost the first of my friends to be in the family way, I'd really appreciate some advice on the things it's worth spending money on and the things that are just "nice to haves".

For example, we're looking at getting a Silver Cross 3D pram system thingy which is middling to expensive, but I'd rather get one that will survive the next one as well instead of one that falls apart in a few weeks. Advice please?!

    Downsizing xx

I remember that thread from last year, I did read it as I was hoping to be pregnant within the year, but a search might bring it up.

We are getting the silver cross linear freeway pram. We looked at the 3D but decided against it. The chassis and pram bit can't be seperated making it too heavy for me to comfortable lift in and out of the car. Although it is small, I find have the normal size freeway easier as the chassis and carrycot bit can be easily detached and put in the car seperately. The Ventura car seat can also be used on the chassis making it a travel system should we wish, but if not we still have the seperate carry cot. You can't do this with the 3D.

However you may be taller and stronger than I, as I have a histor of back problems we didn't want to aggrevate it.

We are going with reuseable nappies and I've been spending on ebay loads these last few months on baby goods. Don't forget to keep an eye out on your local freecycle too. We've done very well out of that this year.

  • Ha, Murphy, thanks for that - I didn't want to look over-enthusiastic as I'd just read it in a magazine and was taking a bit of a leap of faith, I'm glad I've now got a "live" recommendation!! :)

Thank you Madambroke, that's really kind of you :)

If someone finds the link to that thread a few of you mentioned could you pop it in this thread? It sounds good!

    !

    no problem

also, if you see an offer for the "inserts" on 3 for 2 etc, snap it up as the inserts can work out quite pricey, & finally, when you open the last insert, immediately buy some refills. They do seem to be out of stock quite often and it's only when you don't have one that you realise just how useful they are.smiley.gif
