    Just had a thought!

There is a goverment website for statistics.... and one bit is about Names.

Its not bad if you are stuck for ideas-I sent this site to hubby (if i dont I might forget!) and Hes had a look and got some ideas. The trouble is he forgots what hes picked-what a pair we are lol

    http://www.statistics.gov.uk/CCI/nugget.asp?ID=184&Pos=5&ColRank=1&Rank=192

The page it sends you too is about the top names for last year but you can go from there and see other years

I hope its a help to someone

I have got my 20 week scan tomorrow so fingers crossed everything Ok. Not asking what sex it is as want a surprise at the end of the ordeal, what is everybody else doing? I seem to be in a minority with my friends wanting to know so that they can paint the room the right colour!

My due date is 27th of december so I am hoping it is 2 weeks late like number 1 so that it is not close to Christmas.

    Good luck to everybody

Good luck for tomorrow Jude123:) As I mentioned in my post before; I will be getting the baby sexed ... not for painting purposes ... but just because we want to know.

Were you induced with no.1? I was 2 weeks late with all 3 and missed induction with each of them by just hours !!!

Let us know how you get on, take care,x
  • We found out 2 weeks ago we are having a boy and are calling him Jack William. We had decided on that name for a boy even before he was conceived. We both love the name Jack and William is after DP's friend who died 3 years ago. He was known as Bill but we prefered the longer version.

If the baby had been a girl, she would have been called Amy Louisa. Louisa is my and my Grandma's middle name and we wanted to continue it down the line.

We are going to use resuseable nappies but I am wondering is it essential to get a wet nappy bag for when out and about? If it was all day then we would take disposables but for 1 change trips would a double wrapped carrier bag do?

    I am very upset today.

We decided to have a nuchal scan & blood test carried out privately as it was not offered at the hospital. I had this done on Monday night, before the scan the consultant calculated that I had a risk factor of 1:166 but after the scan this had risen to a much healthier 1:853 but I had to wait until tonight the blood test results. The consultant has phoned me to say the blood tests were unfortunately not as reassuring as the scan and my risk has now gone to 1:83. I have to go tomorrow morning to see him to discuss what (if any) further tests to have.

I feel so shocked after the scan I was so happy and positive and now I feel as if the ground has just shifted under my feet and I'm hanging in mid air.

I'm not surprised you are upset..... really sorry about your results. I hope your consultant gives you some good news and hope what ever you decided is best for you.

Take care and let us know what happends-we all will be thinking of you

  • How horrid for you, its like a rollar coaster of emotions.

Even 1 in 83 although not as high as other odds, still means you have a 1 in 83 chance of a healthy child.

You have to do what's best for you, but we are here, the whole point of this thread, is to be here for the highs and the lows.

    Big hugs

I bet you cant wait to see your little baba-just a week before mine. I like the 20 weeks scans as you dont have to have a bladderful!

    M.B.

When i went for my 20 week scan i was told to have a full bladder as it pushes the baby up to the front so the sonographer can see the baby better

We had the blood tests done, but we'd already decided that if the results were bad we wouldn't have the additional tests done. We decided that if bean did have downs we simply couldn't terminate.

OH had already lost a couple of kids at 20 weeks (different partner) through various complications. He'd also worked with downs adults before. We both decided that whatever the results we'd carry on. He didn't consider downs to be a major issue. He explained that they are hard work, but they have so much love to give...and after losing 2 kids in the past it would have destroyed him to choose to get rid of a child who would have been born okay...except for one 'difference'.

So it seemed pointless to have additional invasive tests that could cause miscarriage just to work out whether bean was downs or not...when we didn't really care.

As it turned out my blood test results came back at 1:6200....so all of our pre-planning was pointless in the end.

It is a hard decision to make, but only you and your family / partner can make that choice. We made ours before the tests and fortunately didn't need to act on them. Only you know what you would honestly do if the results of more tests confirmed downs.
Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

Lily contracted Strep B Meningitis Dec 2006  Now seemingly a normal little monster.
Love to my two angels that I will never forget.

I thought you had to drink lots again but was told on my 12 week scan that you dont have too on the 20 weeker....

NHS makes me laugh sometimes-differnt areas have differnt rules, you would think that it would be all the same.

I might drink some just to have a clear piccy as it wasnt so clear last time... 2 weeks tomorrow YIPPIE not that i'm counting lol
