There seems to be no help for students as far as claiming benefits is concerned but I've just found out (after sifting through masses of literature) that I'm entitled to 4 months paid maternity leave as part of my studentship, which is such a relief :rotfl:

Hi Kimmy - Pleased you'll be getting some paid maternity leave, I know when I feel pregnant unexpectedly three months into my new job in September I wasn't sure what I would be entitled to but looks like we're going to be ok if we go careful...

Thanks to Lu T and Noodlebutty - your advice was great yesterday re:maternity pay. Made me realise I'd be much better taking my holiday entitlement and a year's maternity leave (apparently according to https://www.direct.gov.uk I can because my EDD is after 1 April 2007) and moving back North for that year - and then who knows, maybe my pregancy hormones will have calmed down and I'll be able to think rationally about what to do next :rolleyes: (!) For someone who holds down a responsible position at work I am none too rational at the moment, sure I wasn't this emotional seven years ago when I had my boy.

So pleased I joined this thread yesterday - has literally changed my life! :T

Hi guys,
I'm 27+5 weeks pregnant with my second baby, this ones a boy! I'm due on the 3rd March 2007.

I used washable nappies with my daughter so am planning on using them again. We bought a birth to potty pack of the bambino mio nappies but although these fitted my daughter really well the covers are cotton and when she wet had to be changed more frequently. I ended up buying Motherease covers to use with the nappies as these could be wiped and re-used which helped cut down on the washing abit.
I also gave up and used disposables at night as I couldn't find anything that didn't result in nappy rash if left on too long. During the day I changed everytime she was wet but at night we only wanted to change when dirty as we really wanted her to sleep! (and us obviously!).

I am 26 weeks pregnant with my first child and was told at 16 weeks I was a rhesus negative blood type. I have no problem having the anti d injection they talk about at 28 + 34 weeks but as they say it is screened as much as possible I am just a little cautious and worried about things like CJD.

Am I just being silly?

Hi Suey

I'm also rhesus negative and have had the anti-D injections. It's worth discussing with your midwife if you're worried, but I took the view that they don't recommend you have this kind of thing for no reason (and wouldn't pay for it if it wasn't worth it!) and the screening is so good these days that the chances of being infected are tiny.

Of course you don't get any guarantees, but I didn't want to jeopordise future pregnancies, or this baby, if there was a way around it.

It's a very personal thing, so have a think about it. Could just be those first-time-mother hormones making you worry about everything. I've had them too!
