Welcome all newbie club members!

MSE Andrea - I'll try to do a sweep later today/over the weekend and get everyone on the list. Did try to do it this morning, but obviously got overtaken!!

Re maternity clothes - I got some great ones from Dorothy Perkins which expanded through a series of buttons and elasticated bits. Cheap and cheerful is how best to describe what I've lived in this past 8 months! Next clearance is also a good place to stock up if you have one nearby.

Also, the idea of a bigger size is a great one which I also took up. Then you've something to go back down in too. Other than that it's been trakkie bottoms all the way at home - well, since about 30 weeks.

Re washable nappies. Have a word with your local authority to see if they do any trial packs/incentives/discounts or call the Real Nappy Campaign. We've been lucky enough to have been given a whole set of real nappies from TotsBots from someone who tried a number of brands before settling with these. Guess it's about what your baby is like too - size, shape etc. I know a lot of the companies do small trial packs, but the expense would soon mount if you tried one of each! :money:

On maternity benefits if you're studying, I think I'm right in saying there's such a thing as maternity allowance which you would be entitled to. Take a look on the direct.gov.uk site to find out or call your local citizen's advice bureau. You should get something, even if you aren't doing any work at all (and who can fit that in during a PhD?!)

My biggest gripe with maternity is that they seem to be made for very tall people. You can find petite ranges and maternity ranges, but if you're short (I'm only 5ft) it's a real problem. Most of the trousers I've tried on could be worn as catsuits! Grrr.

As a condition of my funding for the PhD I'm not allowed to be employed. It's a bit frustrating because I've just finished in a job that I would have been entitled to maternity pay but had to leave it to do the PhD - although I'm more thrilled to be expecting!
