...is the ethernet port on your PC built into the motherboard on the PC or is it a separate card? Does it have any LEDs on it (at the PC end) to indicate connectivity? Do you have a spare ethernet cable to try it with?
Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard then press "R". In the box that pops up type CMD (then press enter) to start a command prompt. Type ping 192.168.1.174

reply from 192.168.1.20 destination host unreachable (this is stated 4 times)
then it says ping statistics for 192.168.1.174:
packets sent =4 received 4 lost 00 -
And the LEDs?"A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0

When you said the "modem" worked at the computer shop. What exactly did they test and with what?
They hooked your base unit up to their network?... with whose network cable?"A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -

I'd be inclined to discount what the shop has said (not knowing what they tested) unless you actually saw it working when all connected up with your equipment.
As you can't even ping the HH I'd first be looking at the ethernet cable itself based on what you have said in previous posts. As you can probably tell this sort of diagnosis is pretty difficult to do remotely without being able to physically see the hardware in question and the way it's connected up."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -
YES i really am up at this time! must be the stress of the pc lol
