  • Thank you RichardJames, I am actually a fairly light user and don't really download anything at the moment (only because I'm not too sure how to do so, being a dinasaur!) Only a bit worried as was speaking to someone today who had said that another mobile phone company had this offer and they were withdrawing it without letting the users know and the users were then billed for thousands of pounds for plugging their mobiles into their computers without knowing that the offer was withdrawn.

    Thanks again for your help.

  • You woill also need a bt line rental so dont forget that it will cost you an extra £11 a month.

I've been looking at this deal from Orange, and thought I may have identified a loophole.

I have just taken out a new contract with them for £30 a month, so qualify for the free broadband. The problem is, I already have broadband, and the one Orange supply free wouldn't suit my needs. So, I checked the terms and conditions, and nowhere can I see that the broadband has to be supplied at the bill payers address.

I thought I could get it for my mother in law, but upon phoning Orange, they say has to be bill payers address - I pointed out that I can't actually see this in their terms etc, but no joy. I wondered if anyone else had thought of/tried this?
  • You can hav orange bb max with a 20gb cap for £10 extra, this will probably still be less than your current supplier so you could use the offer that way.

Orange is giving away free broadband for anyone on a contract over £30. I'm using a contract I got through using Onecompare (shown on this website in mobile phone section) that gives me cash back so that I'm paying £1.50 a month for a phone and 400 minutes cross network. However, its registered with Orange for a tarrif over £30 so I've just ordered my free broadband (2GB limit and upto 6meg download speed)...you have to have a wireless enabled computer as it is a wireless connection. So get yourself a contract on Orange through one of the offers from the shops online on onecompare, then phone up orange and get free broadband.

Not bad I'd say...2Gb limit wireless broadband and 400 cross network miutes (plus new phone)...all for £1.50 a month (with the cash back...which works so far)...can't find cheaper than that at the moment...

Only catch is you need a BT landline, I think which is around £10 a month ish, hence total of £11.50 a month, but still an absolute bargain. Anyone else done this yet????

It is also made cheaper...which I have done by using envirofone.co.uk (Also from this website) to trade in your new or old phone that you get with your contract...I got £25 for my old phone, effectively reducing my broadband and mobile deal done to around £8 a month!!!

Right, where is the flaw in this idea -

Currently have AOL dial-up - £15.99 per month.

Already have mobile contracts so don't need another yet, but...

What if (and these figures are rough), signed up to clearance phone deal on 18 month Orange contract at £30 through Quidco with E2Save. 12 months refunded by E2Save (subject to usual warnings about getting the cashback out of them!), net cost £30 x 6 months, then take off Quidco cashback and recycling the handset off to Envirophone, makes the net cost work out to about £5 or £6 per month over the full 18 months for broadband plus a sim with 200 mins and 500 texts per month?

(stands back and waits to be deluged with reasons why this won't work....)

well...I agree, why isn't everyone else doing this??? As I am and feel I'm getting a bargain for my mobile and broadband at £8-£9 a month???? I'd take that over talk talk any day...surely better value for money, ok you have to stump up the cash first and get the cashback from the mobile provider, but isn't it worth it???

Probably because Orange are annoying customers left right and centre by changing their terms and conditions mid term. Word on the street is they are not the mobile company they used to be, in terms of customer service, retentions, upgrades etc.

Funkynerd. I'm really sorry to hear that the talktalk recommendation isn't working out for you. However the vast majority of the feedback I've got on TalkTalk is good.

Yet that's very cold comfort for you

The following is from my broadband article and it expresses how i see things

"When writing about broadband providers I always take a deep breath. My Chat-Forum clogs up with people writing “I can’t believe you rate the hideous provider X”. Often the next post applauds the very same provider. So unless a disproportionate number of complaints have been made (when I note it), I simply judge on price as service is much of a muchness. To help, use the Chat Forum link to read others’ opinions or www.adslguide.org.uk is a great website where real techies discuss the issues."

TalkTalk is much the same. It is a massive provider and like all of them - for many people it is useless. Then again so is BT, Tisclai, Wanadoo, AOL and the rest of them. Therefore unless one company has disproportionate bad feedback (and there've been a few) I don't withdraw the research.

The fact is there's always some sub-served customers. Frankly I can imagine that infruriates you when you've had such bad service and TalkTalk needs taking to task (i know from his blog the owner reads this site, so hopefully he'll pull his finger out). The problem is that there are many saying "great was all smooth and easy and really cheap".

I hope you can see my perspective. The only way ot avoid any problems with telecom/broadband suppliers would be to suggest no one uses them

    sorry

    Martin

Your best bet Martin is to state the deals of what service provider are offering the consumers, work out the pro's & con's and leave it to the consumer to make their ultimate decision - guess it means you dont get people blaming you for recommending a company which has left them up s**t creek! ;)

Is that T&Cs of this offer in particular, or just generally (eg the charging £1.50 for sending you an itemised bill). I have been with Orange for a few years, and I have to say have always found them OK, so would be happy to sign up another contract for this, as long as the broadband service is OK?
