There is a suggestion on one of the other sites that registration may be a con similar to the power companies wherby you could be switched without your agreement. I hope this is not the case. Time will tell.
Can anyone tell me if the Sky talk package on offer is worthwhile, or is there a catch in this too? IE Free calls to all uk landlines for £5 a month plus BT line rental. as this could prove quite a saving.0 -
If Sky are involved it will be a catch!0

Actually keith I think what they are saying is that they aren't selling the internet service until August and this is a chance to register to receive full details and switch - if you want to - when it goes live.
Their press release states they cover 28% of the population at present and intend to have 70% coverage by the end of 2007. If it's a good deal for Sky subscribers who can receive it now, shouldn't it be available to them now? Or only when every last Sky subscriber is covered? They have offered a reasonably priced [though not the cheapest] alternative but if that doesn't suit you just stay with your present ISP until your exchange has been unbundled.
I think the idea of them switching you without your consent is frankly ludicous, bordering paranoid!! How will they get a MAC number from your current supplier, or collect their connection fee without you knowing? I think if they did ofcom would close them down, fine them and drum them out of telecoms brownies.
With regard to the phone service the only potential drawback is there is no details as charges to overseas or non-geographical numbers - worth checking those against alternative suppliers before signing up.
My main concern is about quality, speed, reliability and customer service when they're introducing BB from a standing start [albeit as owners of Easy BB]. Whether you like Sky TV or not they're a pretty smooth outfit overall in my experience but I wonder whether it might be worth waiting a few months to see how other folks rate them - never volunteer to be the guinea pig, as it were.
But strictly MSE wise it could save me nearly £20pm taking the mid-BB package and phone service.0 -

Many thanks for the info. I did Fill in the registration form and they tell me all services are availble. So as I pay £14.99 for my present ISP for what would be the Basic Sky deal, Even if I took the SKY Talk package as well, I could still make a saving, It wont hurt to wait and see.

Hi, does anyone know if they restrict or block p2p. I was half interested in the Talk Talk offer but was put off when I heard they block p2p. Its crazy to give you a large download limit and then block the sites you would do most of your downloading from. I have looked in the T&C but can't find any reference to it.0

So would it be possible to drop the BT line rental all together when SKY get round to LLUing my exchange?
i.e. they say you don't have to take their calls package so you could just use the line for broadband.
How about the requirement to have a phone line to use the box for SKY TV, would that be a problem?
I've never had Sky TV but would be very tempted to go with the basic package and tag on the mid level broadband if it meant I could stop paying phone line rental - Am I hopelessly optimistic??
Cheers

I couldn't either! In this case it might be better wait and see. I'm curious to know more about the fair usage policy. Will they employ bandwidth throttling or peak hour usage limits, etc.

Is the £10 a month an introductory offer as with Sky best to wait and see.
They won't connect you without your agreement; more likely you'll sign up and not be connected! I've had nothing but problems with their billing for TV so unless they are proven to be really good, I'm staying where I am.
Plus they will have 0870 helpline nos.0 -
i just checked and i can get sky BB but i am going to wait and see how things are
sticking with tesco BB at the mo:DHonesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
you are on!
if i had known then what i know now!
a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!0 -
I am very confused. I thought it was going to be Satellite Internet like you get in other countries. I can’t see anywhere in their letter or on their website that says you have to have a BT line, (apart for their Connect and Sky Talk service).
How much is the rental for a suitable BT line and do you need a separate line?GONE ENGLAND0
