Stealing photographs or text on eBay - dishonest or merely lazy?

There's only about 8 sellers with the item I am selling so a single page search shows me everyone using my photos. It looks kind of odd actually, you put in a search for this item and the same picture comes up on more than one listing.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I feel like i dont want to post in some of these thread's on MSE anymore, after reading this thread it feels to me that people are being attacked for being honest... i think people need to think about how they reply to each other and if you dont agree with what the person's doing say so politely instead of attacking each other, i read this thread last night and when i signed off the pc it was still going round in my head... Ive also come across this in other thread's on here... Im sure Martin never created MSE for people to be made to feel uncomfortable!!!!Mum of 2 adorable children & 2 cheeky cats who were born on 23.04.2009 :rotfl:0

I don't believe anyone has been attacked for being honest. The only confrontational posts have been against people who seem happy that they are being dishonest in stealing other peoples images or copyright material.
I would also be confrontational if someone was happy to admit to shop lifting, or making pirate DVDs for sale.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. People are making themselves uncomfortable by admitting or condoning theft which is basically what using others material is. People views are being challenged which is what a discussion is. If you believe people are being abusive you can report the post

Sorry but im not a SNITCH, i will be writing to MSE as regards to a lack of respect to each other on these boards... I think if people cant be civil then dont write anything, we aint all angels and im sure everyone of us has done something in our lifes that was dishonest weather they knew about it or not..Mum of 2 adorable children & 2 cheeky cats who were born on 23.04.2009 :rotfl:0 -
Three times I have had someone lifting complete texts from my ads. They were long ones with really complicated descriptions and some measuring!!
I just didn't appreciate someone pinching my hard work.:smileyheaMagenta0 -
Stepping away from the highly amusing indignation and childish pouting for a moment...
I think I read somewhere that uploading a copyright image (when you're not the copyright-holder) to somewhere like eBay would constitute copyright infringement. However, if you embed an image that you link to on your eBay listing then this would be legally permissable.
This is because the image is still hosted on the server the copyright-holder put it on and, essentially, it is they who are making the image available, not the person who created the eBay listing. The only thing in on your listing would be the web address of the image. The web isn't made of static web pages; it's a collection of files on servers, and files can be combined however you like.
It would be harder to link to text like this, so I presume the incidents of "stolen text" are plagiarism that would not be covered by the "fair use" limitation of copyright law.0 -
Original texts are considered as 'Intellectual Property'. E bay will remove the stolen texts from the other person's listing when asked.:T:smileyheaMagenta0

I am not in the slightest uncomfortable by admitting I copy text from a completed listing. No-one has explained to me how that is actually hurting someone, affecting their earnings etc - cos it ain't. they have sold theirs and already made their money.
Crikey if that is all they have got me on if I reach the pearly gates then I am hoping I will be going up rather than down.
I would like to think that all those moralising, have led blame free lives
eg never downloaded a song illegally, or used details from Amazon blurb etc
Take the plank out of your own eye before you take the splinter out of someone elses (or something like that-learnt this in RE 26 tears ago, so might not be the exact quotation.)
Anyway off to copy more completed listings - please forgive me Lord.Money SPENDING Expert0 -
