Stealing photographs or text on eBay - dishonest or merely lazy?

I quite agree but when a debate turns into a character assassination of others, then those who are criticised are entitled to defend themselves.
It does feel like some are being provocative- I mean really, bluenose doesn't have time to write her own listings but she has plenty of time to tell us how much time she has to bake cakes.
Tbh, I couldn't give a toss about other peoples cake needs, and it is pretty obvious it only came up to antagonise.
Nicking other peoples text and photos is against ebay policy at the end of the day, which is why the smart people don't do it, regardless of their morals.
And by the way- fgs read the first post if you can't stop saying that it doesn't hurt anyone!
Or do you not have the time? (rolleyes smilie)This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.0 -
Still can't see what the harm is if it a completed listing and you have sold your item. Great if it saves time. We all decide how to best spend our time. Doesn't affect you in any way.
If it such a bad crime (as quite a few on this thread seem to think,) surely as law abiding, pillars of the community it is your duty to report it to the police.
Then watch yourself get laughed out of the police station.
There is no harm if the 'owner' of the listing agrees. So this is what I am saying, ask first. If it is no big deal to you, then why not ask them to make sure the same applies to them.
As for whether you can say it does no harm, you cannot. If the person lists this item once every month, then using a completed listing can harm, it can make buyers think you are him/her. As was the case with the OP daughter.
It is not a crime, it is against Ebay rules. I NEVER said it was a crime, I said it was not a crime of the century, not inferring it was a crime.
Why would I report it to the police? If you know your law (or your advising husband does) then you will know there are crimes relating to criminal law and those to civil. This could be deemed copyright theft, but I do not have knowledge in this area. I do however KNOW it is a BREACH of EBAY rules.0 -

Its not for that reason i am feeling that way, some people have been honest and admitted using others pics, and others seem to take the situation to far, using someone's pic or text does not make you a thief in my eyes, as im sure people using there works pc to do ebay and other personal internet related things dont see that as a dishonest act.... I think everyone needs to chill and like i said befor if you cant say something nice dont say anything at all..
Im not surprised so many people just lurker when you see some of the posts on here for being honest..Mum of 2 adorable children & 2 cheeky cats who were born on 23.04.2009 :rotfl:0 -

Okay, next time lets just let them get suspended.
In your eyes doesn't matter really, ebay can still take action. This is my opinion. Yeah if they Ebay have been noticfied, ( i would never want to be responsable for suspending someone's account over a pic) i personally only sell a few things on Ebay and dont have time to run all over the site checking if people have nicked my pics or words and to be honest couldnt care less if they had, its a pic of a top or someting, different if it was pics of my car, home or children.... so do people keep checking on people who have purchased there goods as well incase they decided to relist as not suitable to them for one reason or another..(just wondering)Mum of 2 adorable children & 2 cheeky cats who were born on 23.04.2009 :rotfl:0 -

Didn't realise I was being provocative re my cakes. How so.
I guess most of us have time to do the things we feel are important. I just don't think spending time on a listing is. I should have said I would PRFER to bake cakes with my time.

But YOU are not responsible if they are suspended, THEY are. THEY did it.

But if you sold a top and then two weeks later the photo of your top was being used by someone else to sell THEIR top, the BUYER of the top is not actually buying YOUR top is he/she. This is why it is fundamentally wrong. The buyer is buying another top from a lazy lister.

Personally I do not check at all. The only time I may see a copied listing is if I am researching why some products are slower than others. I check the whole of the internet for buying trends etc. So if I came across an item on Ebay with blatant copied (from me) text/photo/video I would inform Ebay.0 -

But why would someone use a pic of a top they didnt have, it will only result in the person recieving it to either return or say so on there feedback, either if the top is similar then the feedback would state it was not what was shown in pic...Mum of 2 adorable children & 2 cheeky cats who were born on 23.04.2009 :rotfl:0 -
That hardly happens on ebay clancy,
if there are two people selling the same top not new with tags ect, then that is wrong as the two items are not going to be in the same state, are theyCOMPETITIONS - 2010 Cushelle Koala, Shirt from Simply Colours, £10.00 Iceland Voucher, Grand Designs Live Tickets x4, Babee Pre-Paid Card, Wii Game, 7night's Holiday, Book x2, Bic Razor0 -
I really dont see what the problem is here. The OP should simply explain that the buyer should be able to see in their account who they purchased the item off and contact them, jobs a good'un.
Yes it is lazy to copy and paste someone elses text and pictures, but then as a nation we are generally lazy people. As a private seller, who sells the odd item now and then, I have done this as I just want the item listed and sold asap!
Does that make me lazy? Probably. Does it make me a fraud, dishonest or a criminal? Definately not!
