IME, turkey legs are a faff as they have lots of sinew to remove :o

    Hi Penny,

I totally agree about the faff if you oven roast them:eek:, but in the SC the sinews and bones just melt away from the meat. And the enormous bone makes lovely stock!:D

I do them in the SC too, nice and easy, then just strip the meat from the bone and bag and freeze what I'm not going to use immediately. They make great pies, curries, and as someone else pointed out are a great alternative to duck if you shred them and serve with hoisin and pancakes - my lot couldn't tell the difference! And the stock is good for soup, quite strongly flavoured as well.

Somerfield often seem to have them reduced as well, so a really economical meat.

....are cheap in the supermarket, but are they worth bothering with?

    Roasting perhaps?

I wouldn't recommend roasting, but they're good slow cooked, apparently ;)

I'll add this to the existing thread, so that you can see other ideas.

I don't have a slow cooker and have been roasting turkey legs successfully for several years. I cook them slowly in foil, allow them to get cold and they carve perfectly, just snip the sinews off with a pair of scissors. One feeds 4 people a roast dinner easily.

Not sure why people say the legs aren't good to roast as most do it at Christmas  but I'm old and use old-fashioned methods, what do I know? :rotfl:

...that I picked up from Morrisons. Have to say I am very disappointed. Tough as old boots and getting the meat off was awful.
Was it the way I cooked it? I did it for around an hour and a half (as after an hour it wasn't cooked fully) as per instructions on the packet. Are these things better cooked really slowly?

Gutted- found this thread as I was checking how long I should be oven roasting my turkey leg for!! I've covered it in foil and am doing it v slowly so I'm hoping it won't be too tough... Am planning to pick off the best bits for a roast later on tonight and casserole the less appetising bits tomorrow. I need my slow cooker back... it's away until next weekend :(
