I dont have a slow cooker so cant advise there - but I usually do a drumstick wrapped in foil in main oven while roasties are in. then pray there is enough fat for gravy!

wrap it well in the foil and dont cook it too long - cant give exact timing as size of drumsticks vary - you could try weighing it and give it 20 mins per pound plus 20 over as you would any other poultry joint.

or - if you want to cook in slow cooker you could make the gravy first and then slow cook it - should think that would work. but i bet the slow cooker owners on here know best way!!! and will help you out.
I just gave quick answer cos you said you wanted to cook it today.....hope I helped hun
  • Probably a bit late at this point for today. I put the drumstick in my slow cooker, add a veg stock cube and sometimes a chicken one. I add enough boiling water to come halfway up the drumstick. Then I cook on high for about 3 hours.

After it's done cooking, I take the skin off and pull the meat off the bone. Make sure you pull the sinews out. The meat is very tender and full of flavour cooking it this way.

I then use part of the stock from cooking to make my gravy. Just bring the stock to a boil on the hob. Mix a tablespoon of cornflour/corn starch in a couple tablespoons of cold water. Pour the corn flour water mix in the stock and stir well. Let it return to a boil, stirring occassionally. The gravy will thicken nicely and have a shiny look to it.

We had this for our tea today and DH and I both really enjoyed it. Hope this helps in the future.
    Take the first step.

Take the bone & other "bits" out.

Lay it flat, put on a layer of stuffing & roll (using foil is good) into a sausage & roast.

    Its lovely.

I'm with Mrs E - I do this at Christmas with the legs, so the legs can be put in before the crown. Turkey leg is also very nice braised in red wine/stock with onions and celery or whatever you have for flavour.

I'd bung it in the slow cooker with some onions and any bits of veg you've got. If you haven't got any you could use some frozen ones. Long slow cooking will make it much more tender.
