I phoned Three yesterday to see what deal they would offer me on the htc desire. (my contract ends in a month and I've been with them since they first launched years ago)
They told me that it wasn't available to existing customers, only new customers!!
I've just spoken to virgin media (Im an existing customer) and they offered
600 mins
unlimited texts
unlimited web (fair useage 1gb)
free phone
24 months
£25 a month
Does this sound like a good deal?0 -
Anyone else spotted that T-Mobile have removed their lower end tariffs and now want over £350 for the phone on a £30/month tariff!
Desire doesn't seem available on anything less than £25/month with them anymore.

That's mad. I knew they'd got rid of the £10 a month plan but all the £15 and £20 plans have gone too. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

Further to my reply to them today morning by email in response to their email from yesterday, I have just now received a phone call from a Mr xxxxxx (outbound customer team) that i will not be getting the HTC desire on my 2nd phone number xxxxxxxxx and that I had already been approved and should have already got my desire phone on my 1st numberxxxxxxxxxx.
I have told him that I never got any HTC desire phone on any of my phone numbers with Three and that he himself had forwarded me to customer options team on 15th of april and xxxx from customer options team had offered me HTC desires on both my accounts with Three for £20 a month on 18m contracts for 1100mins mix and match plus 300mins 3-3 plus free internet 1gb plus 4gb card plus handset cost of £150 for each phone and to be delivered on 22.4.10 but both the phones never came on that day.
I further informed him of my communication with Three blog team and he said he wasnt aware of that and that I wont get the desire on xxxxxxx(my 2nd number with three) and either i can take another handset or get a new PAC code and move to another network and also as per his records a HTC desire has been approved for xxxxxx (my 1st number with three) and i should have got it by now!!!!!
The outbound customer team said that there have been some manufacturing issues and that THEY (THREE NETWORK) WOULD NOT BE GETTING ANY MORE HTC DESIRES (AS PER HIS MANAGER) AND EITHER TAKE SOME OTHER HANDSET OR TAKE A NEW PAC CODE AND FIND SOMETHING SUITABLE ELSEWHERE!!!!!!!
This is not the way a company should be treating its long time customers. I have been with Three for well above 4years and have held two accounts with Three through out this period. 12 days after 2 confirmed orders for upgrades I get told today that on one number i wont get the phone upgrade and can take a new PAC code or some other handset and on another account that i have already been approved and should have got the handset already! Looks like no one knows at Three what is happenning with my accounts as i have not got any handset upgrade to HTC desire yet, which was what I ordered on the 15th of april.
Anyway I now wrote back to the team which contacted me by email that they were looking into this issue and am awaiting their response. But looks like i am not getting the phones inspite of confirmed orders on the 15th and will now have to start looking at other networks.
Interesting, I haven't heard back from 3 yet either I'll give them a ring tonight, I'm sure I'll get a similar response - stock shortage craziness! new customers only, pah0 -
Im getting offered now
100 mins, unlimted txts and data, and desire. for 22 a month over 24 months. Still not sure if im getting a good deal. Im not feeling it to be honest.0 -
24 months seems such a long time for a phone contract, bring back the 12 month deals.
I had a play with the legend and desire today and am considering purchasing SIM free and using Tesco mobile £15/month deal.
I was initially going to go for the legend but the desire is only £30 more, which is not a lot for a lot more phone. The legend doesn't seem to support pinch to zoom on google maps which is a big let down
Had a look on ebay and some are going for silly money.
One seller is suggesting that to buy in store would be £500 - er no they are not, try less than £400.
Another is selling their upgrade, which they don't actually have yet.
Chancers
To those that have Android phones where is the best place to find out about apps for them?0 -
O2 have posted pricing on their network for the HTC Desire on their blog:
http://blog.o2.co.uk/home/2010/04/the-htc-desires-coming-soon.html
The pricing seems to reinforce O2's deals now being the most expensive among the networks. You still would almost certainly do better going with Orange or T-Mobile.
you could get it to £405 over a 18 month contract, if you downgrade after 9 months and every month after that until the contract ends. That works out about £22.50 a month + £99 for the handset.
£30 x 9 months = £270
month 10 = £25
month 11 = £20
month 12 to 18 = £90 (£15 x 6 months)
total contract cost = £405
if you factor in the handset cost its £28 per month total for 18 months. Afaik T-Mobile don't allow you to downgrade, I'm not sure about Orange.0 -

Orange allow you to downgrade once you're half way in to your contract period, I believe. i.e. on a 24 month contract you can downgrade after month 12.
However, with respect to your plan of action of "if you downgrade after 9 months and every month after that until the contract ends. " - you'll be left with a phone but hardly any min or txt allowance - kind of defeating the purpose of having a contract, no?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. yes you would have to consider that, but this is still the cheapest way to get the phone on o2 /w unlimited internet.
For those unable to downgrade so drastically it's still worth looking into when doing your calculations.0 -
Ordered a Desire from TMobile as an 'upgrade' a week and a half ago now.
I went for it because they offered me 18month Flext 35, although with no discount (i.e. I pay £35 per month)!
At the time I thought this would work out well for me since the bulk of my phone bill comes from 0845 and international calls (New Zealand).
Assuming an RRP of £400, that's £230 (£12.77) per month of pure line rental with the potential to avoid the big bills I've had before.
However I am getting cold feet a bit:-- Getting a bit impatient and want phone NOW!
- Not sure if I really got a good deal.
- A bit worried that they will not give me the 3gb fast internet (even though they said they would on the phone, I think that the flext contract probably falls under 1gb FUP)
- Worried that TMobile london 3g network won't be good enough on a smartphone. They claim that their merger with Orange will put them in a strong position reception wise, but then again they would!
Can anyone advise me:-- Bearing in mind that I will want to make at least 50 minutes of international calls and 20 minutes of 0845 calls a month, can I get a better deal anywhere else? Maybe some sort of bolt on with another network?
- If I do decide to cancel this, am I covered under DSR for an upgrade? Or can only new customers pull out? I take it the x number of days starts from when the phone arrives rather than when I requested it?
Cheers!0
