A lot of 'umlimited' internet contracts ban tethering anyway. I'm pretty sure my T Mobile one does.

is there any problems with bubbling under the protector and fraying at the edges etc? was it easy to apply. how long did you not have use of the phone after applying it. i read elsewhere that one cant use the phone for a day etc, is that true?

This device is pointless without large amounts of fast data, the phone aspect is almost a secondary function to its ability to be a permanently connected internet device for GPS, Sat Nav, streaming media, browsing and web apps. When Android based smartphones are everywhere within the next year and a statistical rival to the Iphone then 500mb will be far too little to deal with some of the incredible software which will be available.

To get an idea of what you can expect and why 500mb will be too small watch this video.

dont bet your horses on 'layar' app working on all htc legends or desires. looks like there have been some camera issues and software issues with htc and also with operators like vodafone etc who have individually tweaked the software to suit their network. so htc tweaks android then operator tweaks htc software end result some apps might not run properly is the tweaked software has issues wrt app.

see problems discussed on 'layar' website. looks like htc has recently in the last few days released an update for htc legend and desire software but this update is not available for those whose networks have further tweaked the software like vodafone and hence their customers seem to have probs with software like 'layar' apps. see link and comments

    Just a quick update.

I have the Desire now and it is a fantastic device, I can't believe anyone would spend hundreds extra for an Iphone given what this little box is capable of.

Anyway having purchased it through mobilephonesdirect I gave it a few days after my old number transferred and rang today about the 1gb - 3gb contract problem.

T-Mobile staff could not have been more helpful, they confirmed the contract was incorrect, immediately upgraded it to 3gb and offered me free unlimited landline calls as part of the internet booster at no extra cost.

What a great company, plus the assistance was very pleasant and obviously somewhere in the UK.

    A happy T-Mobile customer.

I'm getting a download speed of 9050 Kbit/s and an upload speed of 223.6 Kbits/s.

In addition to getting upgraded to the 3Gb FUP did you also get a free flexible booster that you are entitled to from T-Mobile on all their tariffs?
I see you received free unlimited landlines but did you pick that over the available flexible boosters? [e.g. free T-mobile to T-Mobile calls]

as far as i am aware orange only does 500mb on most tariffs like dolphin, racoon etc and only on some panther tariffs do they give 750mb. i am not aware of any tariffs where they offer 1gb allowance

you can pay £5 to get the 1gb(but like you said its not standard on contracts) but im just wondering if its worth me sticking with orange if they would only offer the 500mb or 750mb limit

O2 have posted pricing on their network for the HTC Desire on their blog:

    http://blog.o2.co.uk/home/2010/04/the-htc-desires-coming-soon.html

The pricing seems to reinforce O2's deals now being the most expensive among the networks. You still would almost certainly do better going with Orange or T-Mobile.

The three blog team contaced me by email yesterday after my complaints to them. Further to my reply to them today morning by email in response to their email from yesterday, I have just now received a phone call from a Mr xxxxxx (outbound customer team) that i will not be getting the HTC desire on my 2nd phone number xxxxxxxxx and that I had already been approved and should have already got my desire phone on my 1st numberxxxxxxxxxx.

I have told him that I never got any HTC desire phone on any of my phone numbers with Three and that he himself had forwarded me to customer options team on 15th of april and xxxx from customer options team had offered me HTC desires on both my accounts with Three for £20 a month on 18m contracts for 1100mins mix and match plus 300mins 3-3 plus free internet 1gb plus 4gb card plus handset cost of £150 for each phone and to be delivered on 22.4.10 but both the phones never came on that day.

I further informed him of my communication with Three blog team and he said he wasnt aware of that and that I wont get the desire on xxxxxxx(my 2nd number with three) and either i can take another handset or get a new PAC code and move to another network and also as per his records a HTC desire has been approved for xxxxxx (my 1st number with three) and i should have got it by now!!!!!

The outbound customer team said that there have been some manufacturing issues and that THEY (THREE NETWORK) WOULD NOT BE GETTING ANY MORE HTC DESIRES (AS PER HIS MANAGER) AND EITHER TAKE SOME OTHER HANDSET OR TAKE A NEW PAC CODE AND FIND SOMETHING SUITABLE ELSEWHERE!!!!!!!

This is not the way a company should be treating its long time customers. I have been with Three for well above 4years and have held two accounts with Three through out this period. 12 days after 2 confirmed orders for upgrades I get told today that on one number i wont get the phone upgrade and can take a new PAC code or some other handset and on another account that i have already been approved and should have got the handset already! Looks like no one knows at Three what is happenning with my accounts as i have not got any handset upgrade to HTC desire yet, which was what I ordered on the 15th of april.

Anyway I now wrote back to the team which contacted me by email that they were looking into this issue and am awaiting their response. But looks like i am not getting the phones inspite of confirmed orders on the 15th and will now have to start looking at other networks.
