Anyone who gets the Desire on T-Mobile either from them or a reseller needs to read the T&Cs of the fair use policy.
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/uk/fairuse/
In summary Android phones are permanently connected to the net and as such get a 3gb monthly limit when the fair use policy then kicks in.
This is not the case for phones without the Android OS, they have 1gb.
Whilst people have speculated that 3gb is not the case when purchased through a reseller I am yet to see anyone make their case, lots of assumption and conjecture but no fact.
I am of course happy to be proven wrong but since the purchase of the phone through mobilephonesdirect requires a tick to indicate the buyer has read T-Mobiles T&Cs and staff at the company indicate it is 3gb then currently and without evidence to the contrary..........it is.0 -
As far as I am concerned my "deal" was advertised as Unlimited Data but I doubt I will hammer it.
If the plan is inadquate for the Android handset and uses more than their "fair use" then that is T-Mobile's problem not mine and it is up to them to provide enough and the correct wavelength for the demands of the device.
If they are not prepared to do that then they have no business selling it or approving its use on their airwaves either direct from themselves or via an independent retailer.
If i find mine is on an internet service not suited to the handset I will soon ring them up and get them to change it. If they won't I will stop paying and let a judge decide on the outcome. If I purchase a Desire Phone it should be fit for purpose in my book and that includes not only the device working properly but also the airwaves it is connected to.
All this business of advertising "unlimited" and then "ohh but its really limited to 1GB, 3GB or whatver" in some fine print should be outlawed.0 -
Just had a text from 3 this morning stating my phone will be delivered between 13:46 and 14:46 (??). Nice, as there will be someone home and it's technically 2 days early! I'd been told 22nd April.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

You need to read THIS from Billscarab's post above. This explains quite clearly that it's NOT what happens, and also what you need to do to get the 3gb allowance.0 -
My Girlfriend has a HTC hero on Orange so gets 500mb a month of data but has to turn her 'mobile connection' on to connect any part of the phone to this data. When people say that on t-mobile the data connection is always on, does this mean there is not a 'mobile connection' switch or that by dafault it is always on and must be turned off manually if you don't want to be online all the time - thus using up monthly data allowance?0

OK Received Desire yesterday, fantastic phone.
Regarding the Internet allowance, as mine was from mobiles.co.uk i thought i better ring and check with Tmobile that i was given 3gb month allowance.
I was told i was only on the 1gb month by Tmobile and they were quite adamant it was carphone warehouse fault and to take it up with them or pay an extra £5 a month for the 3gb booster.
I argued quite strongly that my contract was with them on an Android phone and should be on 3gb month.
Still no joy.
Asked to speak to manager and they said i would get a call back later today but that even the manager would say exactly the same.
Hey presto within 1 minute i got a call back sayiny they are extremely sorry and they would put me on the 3 gb month plan at no extra charge.
I took the 600 mins /500 text with u/ltd web from mobiles.co uk and she said because the web was included with this i was entitled to another free booster, so i added u/ltd calls to landlines.
I think it is important for everybody to check what web you are given for reading other forums all 3rd party outlets are only giving 1gb per month, but remember that on the 1gb month web the download speed is throttled.
But be aware that you will have to argue and persist with them to get 3gb.0 -
It's the fact the speed is throttled on the 1GB allowance that is most annoying. I suspect 1GB would actually be enough for me but I really don't want the speed to be lower.
Out of interrest Stulaunch when did you order your phone? I ordered yesterday morning and theorectically it should be here today but I haven't heard anything yet today. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

I ordered Saturday and it came by suprise yesterday, no comfirmation of dispatch either. I actually thought they were out of stock as well on Tmobile but didn't want to ring because i used Quidco.
Again it was the same for me about the download speed but she did say at Tmobile that 1gb is not much use on Desire. I think i might agree there seem to be plenty of apps running on it already, i know there are apps to shut down programs you dont need all the time, but i dont really want to be bothered checking whats running all the time.0 -

Download the app called Advanced Task Killer. Stick it on your homepage and it's literally two clicks to kill whatever's running. Same with the app called Quick Settings. Having the screeen on full brightness seriously drains the battery. Quick Settings lets you turn the screen brightness up or down with two clicks.0 -
I ordered yesterday from Mobiles, I called to check they had t-mobile in stock then ordered via the website to get the quidco cashback. The phone arrived this morning0
