Any idea when the Desire is gonna get 2.2?0

It'll be a while after the N1 gets it. HTC will need to ensure compatibility with the Sense UI for a start.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

thanks, if i root the phone and install apps on the card, can these apps be transferred to the new 16gb memory card?
Yes.
Here are instructions on how to perform the operation. This does void any warrantee though and you will lose HTC sense. So think carefully about doing this. Rooting literally turns your Desire into an unrestricted N1. You will also lose any network operator software.

Hi.
I haven't looked at the link you posted but I did want to say that there are some roms available with HTC sense still built in. I'm using.Pays Rom with apps2sd built in and it works great:

It is also possible to undo the rooting depending on which network you're on so that you can get any repairs done within your warranty. See here for a guide

Hope that helps.0 -

But then 3 scrapped the excellent £17 and £20 per month deals with free desires, and raised it to what £30/33 a month...0 -

Hmm didn't know that. I got mine on a retention deal but had a replacement sent out a few days ago which was still unbranded and stock.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

If the 2.2 update will allow the instalation of apps on the SD card, will there be any need to root the desire again?0

The Orange version is a nightmare. They've hidden some HTC apps so you can't use them (because Orange have their own version's), but they're still running in the background and you can't stop them even with third party tools as they start running again. And that not taking into account the amount of space they take up !
this is why im thinking about getting a desire from cpw then port my number over0 -
well i've ordered my Desire this evening and it should be with me on tuesday.0
