Any idea when the Desire is gonna get 2.2?

It'll be a while after the N1 gets it. HTC will need to ensure compatibility with the Sense UI for a start.

Yes.

Here are instructions on how to perform the operation. This does void any warrantee though and you will lose HTC sense. So think carefully about doing this. Rooting literally turns your Desire into an unrestricted N1. You will also lose any network operator software.

I haven't looked at the link you posted but I did want to say that there are some roms available with HTC sense still built in. I'm using.Pays Rom with apps2sd built in and it works great:

It is also possible to undo the rooting depending on which network you're on so that you can get any repairs done within your warranty. See here for a guide

Hmm didn't know that. I got mine on a retention deal but had a replacement sent out a few days ago which was still unbranded and stock.

If the 2.2 update will allow the instalation of apps on the SD card, will there be any need to root the desire again?
