Quick Q, im hopefully going to get a HTC desire tomorrow and i have ordered a 16gb memory card from the web.
If i start using the standard 4gb memory card to install apps, can i simple transfer all the files to my new 16gb card when i get it?
Or will i have to install all the apps again on the new card?
thanks0 -
I've started to look at the desire now since it's unlikely i'll be able to afford an iphone.
Also the fact that you can get plenty of retro console emulators on it as well - and an ZX Spectrum emulator
Can't upgrade until the 24th though ..0 -

HTC Desire currently stores applications on the ROM not the micro sd card so no issue (might gain the ability to use the micro SD card in Android 2.2?). The sync software for the phone is on the supplied card so you might want to fish that off onto your PC (and new card to allow access wherever you are). Hope that helps a bit."I hear and I forget. You can root the phone which allows storage to the SD Card for apps. But Rooting isn't for amateurs.
I changed my Desire for a Nexus One which I know is the same phone (ish) but I prefer the Nexus0 -
Some apps store some of their data on the SD card apparently although the Apps have to go into the ROM.
2.2 FroYo is suppose to allow apps to be installed on the SD card but who knows how longit will take HTC to release it.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

It's available immediately to Nexus One owners. So I keep reading. One reason I swapped phones.0 -

Looking through the specs I 'think' I would prefer the Nexus One over the Desire ( it suits my requirments better ).
But
Why is the Nexus One much more expensive on contracts then the Desire. One quick look puts me back into the Desire's price range again.0 -

I think it is personal choice. The N1 is a Desire chassis. There are subtle differences.
The noise cancelling mic on the N1
An FM Radio on the Desire.
Speech to text on the N1
That said, ther N1 has the capability of having an FM radio it is just not "enabled" so I have read. I have also read that there is a way of "enabling" this feature. Possibly by rooting the device. Also you can add speech to text to the Desire.
The reason the tariff for the N1 is much more expensive is the device itself is more costly than the Desire. The noise cancelling mic is one such part that pushes the cost up.
Also the N1 is totally unlocked and free from network operator's "clag".
I think googleplex have said it must be distrubuted unrestricted. Possibly to allow for the "over the air" updates of "vanilla" Android as opposed to Android with HTC sense or Android with "network operators rubbish".
Therefore being unlocked and unrestricted I guess the handset subsidy is less thus pushing the cost up. At Play.com it is £5990 -

I thought all Vodafone HTC desires were unbranded & sim free as well ?0 -
Yes they are on Vodafone. Not sure if other operators load rubbish onto Desires. I read a lot of Orange users were rooting their Desires to rid themselves of Orange clag. I had an Nokia N73 on T-Mobile and that was locked to their network and also had a lot of T-Mobile software on it and T-Mobile case branding.
Personally I am pleased to have changed from the Desire to the N1. I was annoyed my Desire was faulty but in a way I am glad it was now.0
