Not free alas but I bought a lovely white cotton rug in a charity shop today for a fiver. It's much bigger than I thought it was now that I've got it home and can see the size properly. It's going to cover up that hole worn in the living-room carpet a treat until I can afford a replacement.

Oh, and in the street-market near a friend's house I snaffled up SIX large aubergines for a quid, so it'll be Melanzana alla Parmigiana for dinner tonight and tomorrow and maybe the next day as well. Yum!

It may not mean much to many but to me it's a minor victory in the never-ending battle to make the JSA stretch like elastic

i've had some fab frugal find this week. Had saved up to buy new curtains and light for dd's bedrom and had seen what I thought were bargain £55 chandelier and £36 curtains online at dunhelm mill - when I went to the shop I got the light for £35 and some nicer curtains for 75% off - 12.50 for huge lined curtains - meaning I cul dafford a new curtain pole too and have some saved towards the storage units I have my eye on in ikea!

This weeks charity shop fins inc 3 tops for dd for £1 each, a blouse for me and my book clubb book hard back for 2.50

So happy with my finds this morning.

I bought an old enamel dish for £1 and an old glass storage jar for £1.50....now what to put in it.
It was this comment and my reply of spools of cotton which led to a great find.
The lady in the shop asked if I would be interested in a tin of stuff which she had in the back and which she daren't put out because it contained needles.
She fetched out a beautiful plain red tin which contains a load of old buttons, elastic, belt buckles, glass marbles, sewing needles and a couple of crochet hooks. How much? £1.99. The red tin is worth that on its own so I paid a bit more.

And not only that, the kind lady says that she has some tins...empty...at home which she will bring in for me next week.

    So chuffed....

I saw a lovely black MaxMara trouser-suit in the charity shop yesterday for only a tenner. Although it wasn't my size I'm kicking myself for not buying it now as I could probably have sold it on ebay for more than that. It's a shame there isn't a "Frugal Finds You Stupidly Missed The Boat On" thread on this forum.

Does anyone on here take a size 10 and live in the West Ken/Fulham area who could snap it up?

Had to go to local yarn shop to buy some extra wool and stopped at charity shops and got at the St Christopher`s Hospice CS two enamel coasters from Whittard, egg cup and saucer + a GH magazine and a cake tin ..these were all in the 20p basket so less than £1 for the lot!

Both daughters and their families gone on a fortnight's holiday, so I have aquired random half used milk, cheese, ham, etc and assorted fruit and veg from their 'fridges. Plus a friend has dropped of a dozen cabbage plant that he had spare.

I will be putting essentials back into the daughters' fridges for their homecoming and my cabbage friend will be having some of our extra tomato plants.

A very satisfactory state of affairs in my book.

Took my mum to the theatre tonight - free as I won the 2 tickets on Twitter. :)
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
  • My youngest daughter is moving out of her shared house, and brought some stuff round that she doesn't want. I had mentioned to her I am going to a "bag swap" in a couple of weeks, so she has brought some bags she doesn't want to me. I am now the (very) proud owner of a gorgeous sparkly green bag (from Accessorize). Its made of cloth with beads sown on, far too expensive for me to buy! And I still have a load of bags (as new) for the bag swap.

Actually, there was a lovely bead covered purse as well, which I have claimed as mine. :)

Can't wait for the next bags of unwanted stuff to come my way, if only I was a size 8 or 10.............................................:o
    (or even a 12 or 14 :p)
