So GPS, beaming a signal from your car to a satalite in space, gives a more accurate reading than the actual speedo connected to the car??
Yes it's much more accurate. When you're driving your Sat-nav will be what a few meters out at most? Half the time that will be just how good the map is loaded into it anyway. So the fact the satellites are in space isn't a problem!
Most speedo's are calibrated around 10% lower than actual speed you're doing so if you get caught speeding you can't sue the manufacturer for the speedo being too high! When I'm doing 70 by my Sat-nav my speedo says something around 77 mph. Pretty much the same difference as Boliston's difference around 10%
This is interesting!

No. The GPS is subject to a significant time lag. How much varies according to system, conditions etc.
Speedos are not calibrated to 10% below your actual speed. The Courts will however accept that they have a plus/minus margin of 10% error."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
I think it's sometimes hard to avoid being a 'middle lane hogger'. I find If I pull back into lane one after overtaking I'm quickly behind a HGV and have to wait for a gap in the traffic to move back out. Much easier to stay in lane two.0

I can understand this when there is traffic. A lot of Sunday evenings going along the M3 when it is 2 lanes. I will be in the right hand lane in moving, but slowly, traffic. I sometimes find people coming up being me 100+ flashing me to move. Quite clearly there is traffic so me moving will not help anyone.
However, when there are very few cars on the road there is no need to stay in middle lane.0 -
First rule of the road - keep left unless overtaking or getting in lane for a junction!!!!0

This could have been an attempted insurance job, if you were distracted enough by the Audi driver which could have caused you to rear end the van in front and thus the van in the rear would have rear ended you.
With the number of vehicles involved, they could have a combined witness statement which could have put you across as being distracted and as such possibly at fault for the accident.
I find it highly unlikely that this was a car jacking attempt.
By winding down your window, this audi driver could have thrown something into your vehicle which could have cause you to loose control. This sounds more feasible to me.0
