But then having to drive across all three lanes to overtake one car can be danderous as well. Thats why you should stick to the inside lane unless overtaking.

If the op moved to the correct lane when originally flashed I doubt this would have happend. I think this happend due to the fact the op not only didn't move to the correct lane but infact went into the outside lane!

I think if anyone takes the time to read back a bit they will find it was a 2 lane road and the OP was originally in the inside of the 2 lanes but moved to the outside lane because of intimidating behaviour from the Audi directly behind them in the inside lane. Not many options there really. Decision was made to move to outside lane as the lane layout (difficult for us to tell as we werent there at the time) seemed to show it was safer and less likely to find themselves trapped in the outside lane.

Sounds like a straightforward criminal intent though what it was is difficult to see. Highway mugging perhaps.

but that would've only worked if we were on the inside lane surely?

If they went to the outside lane and say something would have only worked if they were in the inside lane surely that means they were in the middle lane?

    Just to add

I really do think you'll find there was a middle lane! That the op was in before they moved to the outside lane......

Well I've been in situations with another vehicle where I don't know the driver has helped in coordinating a hint that another driver shouldn't be in the middle lane in an empty road such as the overtaking both at the same time either side of the middle lane driver. This could be just another example. They may all have known each other (all doing the same journey in different vehicles) and just didn't like middle lane drivers and tried to get the op to move over.

There probably wasn't anything else going on as it's already been mentioned it's more or less impossible to carjack on a motorway, especially as the op said they don't exactly have a car worth carjacking!

My apologies. I guess I just couldnt understand how anybody would move to the outside lane of 3 to avoid an issue.

Yeah, have to say OP should have moved to inside lane as soon as it became obvious car behind them whilst hogging middle lane.

Dont mean it wasnt a carjacking attempt of some sort but does make that not the only possible scenario. Could just have been the result of annoying other road users by not paying attention. Middle lane road hoggers are one of my pet hates and I tend to flash them rather than just overtake them cos otherwise they will never learn.

I think thats what happend here, just to an extreme way though. I recon all the other drivers knew each other. They may have even set out just to do that to middle lane drivers as it is one of those "pet hates" a lot of peope have.

Ah, it was a conspiracy of middle-lane-hogger haters!

    Just as unlikely hey.

Sounds like something devious was going on!

However, dont hog that middle lane - extreme reaction of other road users notwithstanding.

Okay, I don't drive, I can't drive, and I know nothing of driving esp on the motorway so maybe we were in the wrong for driving in the middle lane.. I'm not sure? Maybe I should give the driver a good talking to? Either way this was deffo NOT just annoyance at the middle lane driving issue, maybe I didn't explain what happened properly? Oh and the fact that they went on to pick on somebody infront was also a give away. I thought it was just idiots messing around but it seems a bit much to involve 3 cars in this?

Yeah, in the wrong for driving in middle lane (actually against the highway code, dont know if its a criminal offense or not - I doubt it).
Yeah, give the driver a good talking to. The more people we can put off driving down the middle lane unnecessarily the better.

And you are right - doesnt sound like middle lane annoyance with the involvement of the other vehicles. Just the one car I can understand it being frustration but sounds more like a set up. And as you say you saw them cooperating a bit further ahead.

Typical that you get flamed for something and the original concept forgotten about.

I wonder what they were after.
