My Samsung RSH started making the dreaded helicopter noise this aftenoon, didn't know what it was, but a quick google and here I am with all you lovely Samsung problem MSE people. :j

Anyway, thanks to Jin220 on page 29 I phoned Samsung 10 mninutes ago on the 01932 number and to be fair to Samsung they were great.

The guy said that it could be any one of six recognised problems and that an engineer would be calling on Monday to make an appointment to visit. They just Txted me to confirm this. he said if its one of the common problems (which I think it is) it will be fixed FOC, so we will see what transpires.

I asked if the fridge is ok to use in the meantime and he said to switch off the fridge for half an hour to let the fan defrost and then switch back on as normal. Hopefully problem will be resolved soon.

EDIT: My FF was purchased in June 2008

Mine is easily 6 years old and finally got the dreaded fan noise/lack of cooling

Is it ok to leave the fridge running whilst its making the noise
  • Big thanks to all you people out there who talked about this problem. We discovered that the top of our Samsung fridge freezer had defrosted but bottom was still frozen on a Saturday night. Thought we were going to have to buy a new one as we bought this one 5 years ago. But thanks to google, this site and all you advice I got it fixed for free:j couldn't find a receipt, but found te serial number and entered it into the Samsung website recall notice. Then as Ange suggested I called 0800 9880 123 and a lovely man came and fixed the problem when I wanted not when they wanted. As well as fixing the technical fault he replaced the fan thingy as the fault had caused it to fail and all for free:T so thanks soooo much

I purchased my samsung rs21 in february 2007 and have had the engineer's out about 6 times during the 5 years it was covered, the problem with the cooling fan which is what everybody has been commenting on has been replaced on each occasion I did receive a letter off samsung explaining the design fault and they attended and replaced the panel which was infact the second visit it had already been replaced and then last year the front panel with the lights on went blank no lights on at all called them out again and that was replaced with was about 6 months ago.

My 5 year cover ended in on the 28th of february and guess what its got a problem again the front panel has gone blank again no lights, and the back of the freezer around the air vents has ice on them so I assume its the same problem as before parts fitted are only covered for 90 days after fitting so I have a choice pay £289 to have it fixed or buy a new one.

I remember my mum and dad having a fridge for about 15 years with no problems except you had to defrost it yourself, bit miffed £800.00 is a bit much for a piece of kit that only lasts 8 weeks after your cover runs out don't think anything is made to last anymore.

I know I'm moaning but I feel very let down by samsung poor quality goods I won't be buying anything else made by them.

Just wanted to tell everybody about the repair kit I have just purchased from Appliance DIY Repairs.co.uk.

I bought my Samsung RS21 fridge freezer in 2006 and two years later it started making' the noise'. About the same time I got a letter from Samsung saying there was a possible "internal sparking" issue and therefore I was entitled to a free in-home inspection and repair. I phoned them and they very quickly organised for someone from their associated repair company, Service Line, to come and repair it. I was told I would have no more issues, that it was a permanent fix, and what's more they would extend the warrenty to June 2011.

Three weeks ago the noise started again, louder than I had ever remember it being before. It stopped about two days later and then the temperature display on the front started jumping around erratically and inside the food was getting warm.

I contacted Samsung, who just didn't want to know. It was out of the extended warrenty and therefore nothing to do with them. They gave me the number of their engineers and that was the limit of their help, despite me arguing with their Customer Service department that I'd expect a fridge freezer fitted with brand new parts, just under four years ago, still to be fit for purpose!!

The repair company, when I phoned them, quoted me over £300 to come and fix it. This was just not a financially viable option for our family budget and we certainly couldn't afford to ditch it and buy a new one. I started looking on the internet to see if there was some sort of temporary fix I could do myself and that's when I came across Appliance DIY Repairs.co.uk.

I e-mailed them detailing the serial number and the symptoms and I had a reply the same evening advising which repair kit was suitable. I decided I had nothing to lose as the kit was my only affordable option at £122.99, so I ordered it late on the Thursday evening. I had an e-mail confirming my order and then another one the next day confirming despatch with a tracking number. It was delivered on the Tuesday morning. My father in-law offered to fit it for me as he is an electritian but it came with very clear and comprehensive instructions and I'm sure I could have done it if I had to.

So far it has been fitted just over a week and everything is working fine, and it such a relief not to have a gaping hole in the family finances!

I have never written a review before or even registered with a social forum, but I was so impressed with the service and the product I felt compelled to write this and hope it is of some help to anybody else having the same issues.

    :D
  • Thank you for all the advice on this forum. A great help. Came home to the infamous helicopter noise on RSH1NHMH. I thought the thing was going to explode.
I didnt see the Watchdog programme so had no idea about the issues.
Had the unit for about 2 years - no proof of purchase (bought online from Comet).
Phoned the 01392 Customer Service number and spoke to adviser. They have arranged for an engineer to ring me within 24hrs to come out and fix any of "6 specified" potential faults free of charge.
Thought this was great service, although if there is a recognised risk of fire I suppose its the least they could do!
Will update post when engineer has called.
    Thanks once again.
  • A huge thank you to all who have posted about this issue :T

I too noticed the noisy fan on my RSH1DBMH a few days ago and a build up of ice in the fridge compartment. Yesterday the water dispenser stopped working and this morning I noticed the fridge wasn't cooling. Cue very worried frantic searching of the Internet and lump in throat thinking I was going to have to fork out for a replacement or expensive repair of a barely 3 year old appliance!

So I was very relieved to come across this thread. First off I went to the Samsung website using the link provided earlier and put my model and serial number in the search box, unfortunately it said there was no problem with my appliance......hmmmm....But then I called the 01932 454358 number and spoke to a lovely guy (in Cairo!) who said I would be contacted by an engineer on Monday and he will conduct the repair free of charge sounded like he wasn't at all surprised when I explained the problem (it will probably be same day or latest by Tuesday), hooray :j

Fingers crossed it does the job. Thanks everyone.

    Hi

I have a rs21jgrs model which has started to make a buzzing/vibrating noise when compressor/motor runs? The noise seems to come from the underside of the unit on the freezer side. Does this sound like the problem you had?

I as others before me found this thread on the forum too late...but all is not lost!!! I have a RSH1DBRS purchased in November 2008 and had never had any problems until I had the dreaded noise and then the fridge stopped working. I didn't stop to think just called out a local fridge repair man and paid £288 to get it fixed! It was only when he mentioned how many Samsung fridges he got called out to that I got suspicious and 'Googled' the problem...bingo. I decided that nothing ventured nothing gained so I contacted Samsung and asked them to refund me for the repair. Its taken 2 months but they have just paid my claim in full.
