  • My Samsung RS21 tripped the house earth leakage circuit breaker overnight and tripped it twice again early this morning when working out which appliance was at fault. Tried once more after a few hours, it is OK! Any ideas what may have been the cause please?

Sounds like the usual ice build up problem reported on Watchdog.

Call up Samsung and ask them to repair it as it's an affected model, most of the time they'll just do it to keep the peace.

  • Hi Folk;

I have had the same problem with my Samsung Fridge. It is 8 years old and until now hadn't had any problems. I had read loads of threads - all indicating that the lound noise which only occured was due to freezing parts. This was confirmed by my local and really relaibe appliance service man whom I called. His suggestion was to completly defrost the fridge freezer, leaving it unplugged for 48 hours. Hey presto the fridge freezer is working better than ever and it cost nada to fix the problem.

It also forced me to have a complete clear out old contents and clean up of my fridge compartments and selves tec. The firdge hasn't looked so good in 8 years. I also discovered a filter that should be cleaned every year that I have never noticed.

Note; You do need to do this as soon as you realise there is a problem or you risk moving parts being damaged as the beat against the ice build up.

Hope this helps someone and saves them some money.

    Where is that, please?

  • The fridge on my Samsung RSH1NBRS started to make the 'fan noise' a few days ago. The fridge was still cold and the noise had stopped the next day. However, later that night the fridge had defrosted (even though was showing a 1 degree temperature on the door) and we had to throw out what we couldn't rescue. The freezer is still working and just now the fridge is cold but not as cold as it is meant to be. The appliance is outside of warranty, about 2.5 years old and I just called Samsung after reading this forum (thanks everyone!). They just took the model number and serial number and say that an engineer will be contacting me within 24 hours to arrange a visit. Hope it is that simple!

yesterday my f/f joined the noisy fan brigade. went on samsung website who have a notice

    IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

Samsung RS21 and RS60 range fridge freezers

Samsung Electronics have announced a programme to visit the homes of customers in the UK and Ireland to resolve an issue that is potentially related to certain now-discontinued RS21 and RS60 and range of fridge freezers, manufactured between March 2005 and June 2006.

Samsung Electronics has decided to take this action following investigations into a possible defect in the assembly of the models' defrost system.

In very rare cases, there is a possibility of internal sparking to occur which may pose a potential fire risk, in even fewer cases, it may lead to a personal safety issue or structural damage to the appliance.

Although the possibility of this occuring is very low, for the safety of consumers, Samsung has decided to undertake a free in-home inspection and repair programme for all affected fridge freezers. As a precautionary measure, Samsung will also include the following fridge freezers with a similar defrost system as a part of the programme.

The extended models include RS21 and RS60 (outside of the above dates of manufacture); SN62, RSE8, RSH1, and RSJ1.

Quality of its products, and satisfaction and safety of its customers, is the highest priority to Samsung. We thank you for your cooperation and apologies for any inconvenience.

apologies if already posted - has anyone else used this method for a repair

    thanks
  • I have the RSH1 model and started to get the helicopternoise which stops when you open the door. I also had a lump of ice formingaround the middle of the fridge on the back panel, and the temperature wasbeginning to rise in the fridge compartment. The freezer compartment wasunaffected - thankfully.

I rang Samsung who took all the details of the fridge, butas it was out of warranty, told me it wasn’t covered and told me I would haveto pay for the repair. I phoned back to complain as I know some people have hadthe repair done by Samsung, but was still told exactly the same thing. I phonedaround for some quotes, but most people I phoned said “We don’t work onSamsung’s”. Good start. There were only two companies that did. One of themquoted a lot of money for the repair, but in all fairness the person I spoke towas very clued up and properly explained what the problem was and what therepair process was. This was a company that were working on these fridgefreezer’s day in, day out.
Unfortunately though, after just being told about jobuncertainties at work, I decided I was going to do all I could to save somemoney. Foolishly, I got the other company to come and look at it (the cheapone). The engineer clearly did not know anything about these Samsung fridges atall. He spent 10 minutes looking at it, and said it was a “Known fault”, andthat I would need to phone Samsung to get one of their engineers to fix it, andthen charged me £40.00 for the call out! So that was very handy. I’ve lostcount of how many times I’ve said to friends and family “Well, you get what youpay for”. I wish one of them had said to me ”Always practise what you preach”.But they didn’t. So, I was no further forward and £40.00 down. Brilliant.

I still had the same problem though, low budget, and highexpectations. I then decided to see if there was any information about thesefrom other people with the same problem. And here you all are!!!!!! Good heavens,is there anyone with a Samsung fridge freezer out there that HASN’T putsomething on this forum yet?

I trawled through it all, and couldn’t help but notice thatmany people spoke very highly of Appliance DIY Repairs - a company that sells arepair kit for Samsung fridge freezers that you fit yourself (I suppose theclue is in the title.)

So, after my last bad decision that resulted in me gettingsome clueless idiot to examine my fridge, who incidentally had hygiene issuesas well, and did nothing except write my bill out for £40.00, I decided thatfurther investigations into my predicament would be necessary. I looked atother websites, forums and blogs about this kind of thing, and did in factdiscover that Appliance DIY Repairs seemed to sell a huge amount of theserepair kits, and they also seemed to have everything provided in their repairkits, unlike other companies selling the same kind of thing. I checked theirpart numbers were genuine Samsung part numbers, I compared prices, and foundthem to be the best for everything they were providing, but, even thoughacademically, I’ve always considered myself to be able to hold my head high, mechanically however, I’ve always struggled to understand which end of thescrewdriver does the necessary work.
I then decided that if I did buy a repair kit, I suppose Icould always ask my 16 year old son to help me on the tricky bits, which I diddo, and he grunted something which I interpreted as meaning that he would bedelighted to. Of course, by asking the question in the first place, what Iactually meant was “Will you do everything for me, and come and get me whenit’s fixed?”

This was now late into the evening, and a decision needed tobe made. The next sequence of events certainly took me by surprise. I emailedAppliance DIY Repairs, gave them my model number, asked them to confirm whichkit I would need (even though I had managed to work this out myself), and askedif someone of my somewhat disadvantaged mechanical background would be able toundertake such a task. I expected to get a reply sometime the next day, but 20minutes later just as I was about to shut the PC down, they had already repliedand given me all the information to put my mind at rest, and I made thedecision that I would place the order the next day.
The next morning I placed the order, and ten minutes later,I received another email confirming the order. About another half an hour afterthat, I was emailed again to confirm that the order had been sent, and thearrival would be up to two working days, and I was given a tracking number. Thefollowing morning I thought I’d have a go at tracking the item, just to seewhat its progress was. Unbelievably, I’d just typed the number into thewebsite, and the doorbell rang. Some chap was standing there with my repairkit!

With my son at school (at least he grunted something alongthe lines of that’s where he was going half an hour earlier), I decided to‘make a start’ on the repair. I followed the instructions, which were mucheasier than I thought they would be to understand, and within an hour, I hadcompleted it.
The fridge is quiet and cold again, and I was absolutelythrilled to have done a repair by myself at a fraction of what I could haveended up paying. I would therefore like to thank everyone that has taken thetime to write on these forums and blogs to help people like me save some money.I hope I’ve done my bit now to help others in the same boat.

    :j Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou!!!!! :j

I should also say that in relation to what I said earlierabout the threat of job losses at my work, it transpired that my job was safe(for now) thankfully, but on a serious note, the run up to Christmas was themost gut wrenching experience of my life, and my heart genuinely goes out toanyone who’s had that same prospect thrust upon them. Let’s hope this year willbe a better one than last year.....

  • Hi All,

    Finally Ive found this forum!

Came home tonight to find my fridge isnt dispensing water or ice. There's none of the motor noise that everyone seems to be experiencing and it does the usual clicks when you offer the glass to the dispensers, I can also hear the motor going on the ice dispenser.

I pulled the ice tray out and emptied as it was quite full. Still no water. The fridge temperature and freezer are fine so I not sure what the problem is, has anyone got any ideas.

I bought the fridge about three years ago and never had a problem and it would appear that the warranty has run out.

    Any advice gratefully appreciated!!
