  • I also have a 2007 RS21DPSM model and have had similar problems. Namely first I had a problem with water leaking from the water tank which cools the water to dispense cold water from the water/ice maker section. Inspection revealed a burst water tank which I have had delivered. I also noticed an increasing noise from the main fridge fan and decided to dismantle. During this process I noticed a build up of ice and raised the fridge temp to 7 degrees C ( the max value). I left the fridge for some time and was able to remove the panel as described in earlier posts. I removed the ice build up and the fan worked fine. I also think the temperature selected 3degrees C was too low and resulted in the water tank having a build up of ice causing a small fracture and the leak. I will persevere with the system on a slightly higher temperature of 4 degrees. Having looked at the issues of feeding the tubes through the fridge channels etc I have decided to fit two in-line connectors in the tubes within the main fridge compartment. Wish me luck. I will advise on the results.

Update on the latest repair - engineer turned up and identified a fault in the new back panel that he installed 6 months ago. Apparently Samsung have decided that the previous design of the panel is also wrong and the new panel he has just fitted should work fine from now on. He also lagged the pipes behind the new fan panel to stop them icing up. Working great now and should have no more problems (hopefully!)

:j:j thankyou - just called that number and an engineer will come out for free asap, just waiting on the call to book:T:T

no such luck here I'm afraid.

bought my RS21 on 15/11/06 with an extended warranty until 27/11/11.

started making the helicopter sound so phoned Samsung and they said they had extended warranty themselves on these for upto to five years and because mine was outside 5years could not help me. :(

I even asked for gesture of goodwill given it's less than 30days outside this time frame and they said NO!!

I have managed to locally source an official repair kit for £90 with the latest parts so will be fitting this shortly.
  • Have had the rs21 for over 5 years now and engineer came out a few years ago to sort out the fridge freezing problem.
Now thou I'm noticing ice cream coming out runnier than it should be. After taking its temperature the items in the freezer are cooler than that displayed on the front panel.
Any one else had this problem?
  • Well we have the rsh1nbrs just over 2 years . And same problem noisy fan. i have considered the diy option (if you are going to do this unplug fridge !!) . As im used to fixing electrical parts on scooters etc. However thought id call samsung. Now they asked me if id called an engineer in the past . I havent.
I mentioned that i believe it to be a design fault. They said that as a gesture of goodwill they will send the engineer out to check if its under the 6 faulty part extended warranty as mentioned above. Free of charge. So im waiting for the call and the fix. I suspect it is the defrost sensor as the fan is hitting ice and the vents frozen up.

i can hear the van whirring noise at the moment
  • Right OK i spent time with the engineer. took out shelves and unscrewed the bottom panels underneath light tower bit.
the panel was frozen on. he used a steam machine with nossle to defrost. To be honest using a hairdryer you will be there for hours.

When we looked in you could see the small defrost probe was on the wrong side . It really is a small item this was replaced with a newer probe . The fan section was taken out (connected to panel)he melted ice off in 5 mins.
We then put panel back on and shelves and food back.

He then said that on top of the fridge externally the metal hood housing the fuses would be replaced !!!!!! important as this adds extra protection for electrical faults /fire !!!!

He was done in 40 mins . He actually said that the samsung fridge range is very good quality !!

All they wanted to then know was the place and date we bought the fridge . our warranty ran out 15th december.
In my opinion the customer service was excellent. However it s clear that there is a production line problem . And if you have bought a side by side freezer in the past 4 years it will have these faults .
I wouldnt panic and i wouldn't attempt the diy bit just yet. Call them and get them to do it. state you have read there is a design problem. As long as it is this fault its free.

if for any reason they dont agree then go diy. As it is easy to fix ! but if its something like a compressor or electrical lead problem then ............... But seriously cannot fathom why the ebay seller is selling the whole plastic panel bit as you dont need it .

touch wood its working fine. Oh tempertures should be freezer -18c fridge 3-5c . they both have independent cooling so freezer wont affect fridge etc
The probe must me like £3-5 quality .
  • We have a Samsung FF model RSH1JBRS, purchased Nov 2007. As described by others, we got the helicopter noise for about 7-10 days followed by lack of cooling in the fridge (freezer was working fine). The food started going bad a lot quicker so I bought a fridge thermometer to check the temps in various locations. Turned out the bottom two drawers in the fridge were able to maintain around 5C but rest of the fridge was 10+C even when temperature was set to 1C on the control panel. Also, there was ice build-up in the fridge compartment (on the back panel) and the water tank was frozen.

After reading the posts on this forum, I decided to call the Samsung Customer Support at 0330 7267864 / 01932 454358. I described my fridge problems for about 30 secs and the rep said he had heard enough and he was going to schedule a service visit. I asked about the cost of the visit since my fridge was 4+ years and he said Samsung had extended the warranty to 5 years as a goodwill gesture.

That was on 28th Dec. Within 15 mins I got a call back from the local service company and was given the first available date of 3rd Jan because of the holidays. The technician came yesterday and replaced the thermostat and installed a fuse component (new item) in the panel at the top of the fridge. The unit has been working fine for the past 24 hrs and the fridge is maintaining a temp of 1-2C even when the control panel is set for 5C.

Overall, am annoyed that my FF had a problem but am happy with the way Samsung handled the issue.

btw, if you open an online account on Samsung UK website before calling customer support, they will be able to pull up your personal details off the online account and you won't have to give it over the phone.

I have the same problem with this dreaded fridge freezer. I purchased mine in May 2007. I know, I should have read the reviews first - big mistake! Mine developed recently. Samsung have sent their engineers out 4 times now. They replaced the "defrost system" twice only for the problem to start again after 2 weeks. After the last repair last month, the engineer told me not to bother ringing them again as there is nothing else they can do. He admitted being baffled as to why the problem reoccured after the initial repair.

Anyway, I contacted samsung directly last week and they have just told me this evening that they will be sending me a "partial refund". Am not sure how to take this news. The truth is I did not plan to be back in the fridge freezer market so soon. I have no idea how much they will be refunding, perhaps half or 25% of the value. This will be very inconvenient as I will struggle to find the top-up to buy another fridge freezer. Any thoughts/advice on this matter please?
  • I had samsung out for two seperate warranty calls on the same day. They were quick to respond and repair three days from ringing to visiting, The lcd tv had the problem with turning on. that took approx 1/2 hr to repair, they replaced 2 capacitors. the rsh1 f/freezer took 1/2 because i had spent 2 days defrosting thoroughly. the engineer replaced the defrost thermostat but on the opposite side to the original one, it is now sited on the left side of the cooling element.

Have to wait and see if this works.

Had a follow upp call from samsung asking about service told me any problems call back.

Happy with service for sure, yeah would have preferred if they didnt go wrong. thats life

    happy new year all
  • I've had this problem TWICE! Bought the unit in 2005 and luckily paid £178 extra for the additional extra 5 year warranty. The buzzing noise started about 2 years later and in a very short period got very noisy, stops when the door opens and you can hear the fan slowing down, so I had it fixed under the insurance. It then went again another two years later exactly the same so I had it fixed again this time asking the engineer, "if I wasn't insured how much would this cost me?", answer £240. Insurance now expired and it's happened AGAIN!!!!! Now frantically shopping for an alternative rather than pay out myself knowing it's an ongoing occurrence. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!!!!! I had the one with the drinks dispenser that you don't have to plumb in. Fantastic model but c'mon Costs £700 then you have to pay out £240 every two years. No thanks! GOOD LUCK everyone. Anyone got any suggestions on an alternative???
