Mine is being replaced tomorrow with a RSH1FBRS model - which is supposed to have all the bits that my old one had (hopefully not the same b***** fault!). I hope the exchange goes smoothly - its a pain that they want to remove the old one at the same time as I've had to buy a small chest freezer to decant my frozen stuff into . I will keep my fingers crossed and report back.
I had mine replaced on the agreed date and the old one was taken away. I realise that some customers are cross and frustrated but whilst I was inconvenienced with all the breakdowns and repairs, I am happy with Samsung's customer service.0 -
So glad I found this thread. Was ready to chuck the thing out !!!!
Ours is doing exactly what a lot of people are getting. Fan making noise, not cool as it should be etc.
Anwyay, phoned the freephone no and gave serial no. apparently ours was made in march 2005 so we're OK.
Only problems is they said someone would contact us with 2 weeks ! In the meantime, our fridge is screwed !!!
If I defrost it will it last until it gets repaired. Can I use a hair dryer or hot water without knackering anything?0 -
Paulfoel, if your fridgefreezer is showing problems now, you should be able to get an engineer out to fix it. I would say that the two weeks wait is for those having to have the general modification due to the fire hazzard. I would contact them again just to see. Tell them that you will need to claim for the food that is wasted.
Best of luck0 -
Samsung service is overloaded, I'd imagine that's why there's the delay.
Sadly there simply aren't enough technicians that Samsung will use to get the job done as they won't use anyone outside their own network.

Yeh. I did try telling them it was screwed but they said I still had to wait two weeks...0

Shocked to see that all the major retailers are still selling the RSH1NBRS which appears on the recall list at samsung.com/uk/homevisit.
I am/was considering buying one, but after reading all this will steer clear.
Samsung may/may not have rectified the design fault, but you may/may not be getting old stock with the fault.
Price is tempting, but probably worth avoiding the agro and risk of fire & future problems for the sake of £100.0 -
Flippin heck. Phoned yesterday and they're coming today !!!!0

I have a samsung side by side model rsh1nbrs which has exactly the same problem.
I have watched the watchdog article on the rs21 and it is exactly the same noise.. We took the back panel off to check the fan and it was frozen solid as was the electrical gadgets on the reverse of the panel..............it is 4 weeks out of its 2 yr warranty. We have been included in the fire hazard safety update as our serial number falls into the category with the same faulty defrost mechanism as the rs21 but i can't get any of them to accept that the freezing up is the same problem as the rs21. Samsung have supposedly given auth to their man doing the safety update to attempt to repair it... He has yet to arrive!!! I can't get the extended warranty out of them.... What do i do know.... ??
Incendentally Curry/Dixons are still selling this model for £799 so buyer beware!!!!0 -
Has anyone bought/had a problem with the new RSG5DUMH as I've been looking at them for a while!
I've got one & its just started going funny:eek::mad:
Started defrosting, I rang Samsung this morning (Sat) they said they will pass on my details to the local engineer on Monday morning & he will call (NOT VISIT:mad:) within 24 hours.
After turning it on & off a few times its started cooling again (got loads of food in the freezer:eek::eek::eek::eek:).
But the casing of the unit (the outside bits) is very hot:eek::eek::eek:
Getting worried, but don't want to turn it off till next week & loose all my food:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Have these models been catching fire too?0 -
I don't know but if you go to the samsung website you can put in your model and serial number and i think it will tell you if you are included in the safety update. I received a letter as they had my address on the guarantee but a neighbour didn't get a letter who also has one of these freezers and it needs an update.. hth
(ps this site won't let me post a link!)0
