I've got one & its just started going funny:eek::mad:
Started defrosting, I rang Samsung this morning (Sat) they said they will pass on my details to the local engineer on Monday morning & he will call (NOT VISIT:mad:) within 24 hours.
After turning it on & off a few times its started cooling again (got loads of food in the freezer:eek::eek::eek::eek:).
But the casing of the unit (the outside bits) is very hot:eek::eek::eek:
Getting worried, but don't want to turn it off till next week & loose all my food:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Have these models been catching fire too?
I dont think theres been reports of any catching fire. I reckon this was just an excuse from samsung to cover up the fact that it was a design fault by them...0 -

Just seen a link to this thread over on HUKD.
Our Samsung american side by side fridge freezer (no water/ice dispenser) was *written off* by a Samsung engineer 4 weeks ago as it's 'potentially damgerous', an 'urgent' replacement order was supposedly put in that day - a week later we chased it to be told they hadn't even put the order in!
4 weeks on we're still having to use a potentially dengerous fridge that we have to take apart and manually defrost once a week to keep it going...the replacement is *due* to come Monday morning. Fortuantly we're able to decant bits into neighbours fridges/freezers but the children will be having an interesting day or 2 of food!
Not at all impressed and if we could a) afford to replace a 2 year old fridge freezer or b) find a suitable alternative we certainly would be!Slightly worn out mum to 3 (DS1 May 03, DS2 Feb 05, DD1 Feb 08). When i grow up i think i'll become a UN Peace keeper....0 -
We've got one of the slightly earlier models of Side-by-Side US style fridge freezers: The SR2028CSS model, and we're getting exactly the same problems as the later R21 model that was featured on Watchdog.
I spoke with Samsung direct today on the 0845 number listed in an earlier post and after a polite conversation, they're sending one of their Service partners to the house to fix it free of charge.
At all times, the Samsung guy (from their Edinburgh Call Centre) was polite, courteous and professional.
Will repost once the fridge has been repaired.

To cut a very long storey short my fridge/freezer (RSH1DBRS) started icing up in Nov 09 (unit was 10 mths old), and I wanted to get through xmas so I reported it in Jan.
105 days later I got a new fridge/freezer.
It took 6 engineer call outs, paperwork that took a week to go through despite reassurances it will be done next day. My fridge/freezer was finally written off, it had fix for design fault (thats when it stopped cooling), new thermostats, new circuit board and a re-gas... thats the order they will fix it regardless of symptoms.
Fingers crossed new one seems to be working .... for now.
Thankfully I hadn't got around to getting rid of my old small fridge and freezer so I could survive.
For anyone who thinks their fridge freezer works buy FF thermostats you can't trust the components to tell you the right temp... despite having the fix for the fire issue at one point my Freezer got up to +23 degrees (my house was only 19 degrees) thats when I concluded the unit couldn't be trusted and turned it off.
I made a few mistakes, you need to chase Samsung everyday (in my experience they do answer the phone quickly), get the number for the engineers so if Samsung say they have not received the report you can call the engineers direct and ask them to email report again, and then you can say to Samsung the engineers have resent the report. Samsung will then check their inbox again and ... surprise surprise they will then find the engineer report.
The first line helpdesk are really nice and empathetic, however if you get escalated to senior customer care you will feel like you have been bullied. I have been nothing put polite to the helpdesk, and even one of the guys who I spoke to a few times (thats how much I had to call Samsung) said I was one of the polite ones, hence he remembered me, so I didn't appreciate the intimidating tone of the more senior customer care desk. The senior guys seem to have no concept that not having a fridge/freezer for 3.5 mths is a problem. I was very close to calling a solicitor.
Samsung will make you feel like you are getting somewhere (hence you think just 2 more days and then I'll call the solicitor thats when you realise it has taken 105 days)... don't fall for it and just keep chasing... its the only way.0 -
Bought a Samsung RSH1 two & half years ago.
Fridge stopped working due to all the common reasons (iced up cooling fan, etc) - Samsung sent local Engineer in Feb 2010. Replaced lots of parts, incl Evaporator Assembly kit / Defr temp sensor / Thermal fuse !!! kit / defrost heater !!! kit, etc). These were all the latest Samsung recommended items to replace.
Worked fine for only two months!
UNTIL beginning of April 2010 - The unit motor started sounding louder & then approx 24 hours later, the freezer stopped working & leaked all over the kitchen floor. We lost all the food inside. 24 hours later, the fridge stopped working & a plastic buning smell was present. I switched it off. Samsung sent another engineer. He was shocked by what he found.
Behind the evaporator, it had burned through the plastic insulation and the wall had cracked in three places. It was the worst he's seen!
We were lucky that we had switched it off, as it could have caused a major fire! He stated that these are INHERENTLY FAULTY!! Samsung will not admit it...these use the same internal workings as the RS21.
THEY ARE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS.
All we have been offered is a direct replacement (would we sleep at night??!)....or a partial refund based on a STAFF discounted price & allowing for depreciation! I'm not Samsung staff & we've only had it two & half years.
IT COULD HAVE KILLED US!! Samsung have not recalled any of their units & are still recommending repairs with faulty electrics. These units are still being sold!
We will NEVER purchase electric goods from Samsung EVER again.
Is there a case here for grouping together & issuing a collective negligence case?? :mad:0 -
Hi, i have a RSH1DTMH and it has just developed this fault (the noise/fan must be frosted up). The noise started 2 days before the engineer came about the recall fire hazard problem. I mentioned that I thought it was the defrost problem they were coming out about and he said no - it was another problem. He said the defrost problem is known to samsung. the noise has now got worse and now stopped and I am worried the fridge will stop working - water stopped dispensing yesterday. The fridge/freezer is a month out of 2 yr warranty. I have rang up where we got it from but they don't want to know because it is out of warranty (John Lewis) Even though I pointed out it is a known problem. What am I best to do now? Should I ring Samsung or write to them? What have people found the best?
I am due to have a baby in the next few weeks and I could really do without our fridge packing in! We only got in 2yrs ago and paid alot of money - I am so mad!SAHM Mummy tods (born Oct 2007) and dd (born June 2010)0 -

Am so glad I googled this!! I have an RS21 that we bought in April 06. Woke up today to find a lake in my utility room and loads of frozen food that was no longer frozen. Thought oh had not shut door properly until I realised this afternoon that the milk I had taken from the fridge didn't feel as cold as it should. I have gone on the site and mine does need a home visit but am wondering if I would be better phoning as I am now without a fridge and am worried in case it decides to act as a fire as well!! They do say things come in threes and my washer went last week.....0
