'American Style' Samsung Fridge Freezer (merged threads)

My RS21 has now been repaired 3 times due to the 'noise' fault (the last 2 failures occurring within 6 weeks of each other). Given that twice Samsung booked the engineers visit with me - and then forgot to tell the engineer what they had done resulting in 2 whole wasted days! - I was already pretty P***** off with Samsung,
Now, by chance, I have discovered the potential fire hazzard and understand from their website that it will be up to 14 days before I here from the engineer re a visit ! Not happy at all as I am off to Sri Lanka for a month in early January and certainly do not fancy leaving my fridge/freezer unattenfed all that time. I am also pretty miffed that, even though Samsung are WEll aware of all my previous problems, they did not see fit to contact me direct re this new problem.
When I phoned today I was told that, after the newspaper ads re this fault, they are now on their 4th week of sending out letters to known customers - and they are sending out 4000 PER WEEK!!! I was also told that the fire hazard is only a suspected problem and that NOBODY has actually has a fire! I'm sure at least 2 people on MSE have reported actual fires - although I can't find their posts at the moment.
My case has now been referred to 'management' for a possible replacement given that I have had ongoing problems. I'm not sure what this will involve but I am concerned that, if they do replace the unit, they will deliver a new one and expect to remove the old one immediately. Thats hardly practical given that my feeezer is absolutely full up. There is also the problem of getting the units in and out - case of removing the freezer doors - they wouldn't deliver the old one inside the house and I don't suppose they will want to bring the new one (if I am lucky enough to be offered a replacement) inside either.
I will never buy from Samsung again!ELITE 5:2

Well they haven't called back - even though I was promised a call back within 7 days (ie yesterday). I phoned again today and they say that it has been 'referred' but there is no update showing on the computer. The Team I spoke to were based in Ireland - the Escalation Team (as they call themselves) are apparently in Scotland so God knows who they will pass me onto next!ELITE 5:2

My RSH1DBRS developed the same fault, frozen water, nasty noise, cold at the bottom and warm at the top. Typically was 10 days after initial 2 yr warranty ran out. S/W Comet who sent out engineer after saying that it should be covered. I wasn't there when they fixed it but he kindly charged my Grandmother who was there £100!! I checked with Samsung on 0845 726 7864 and they confirmed it should be free and Comet should have told me to call them. Waiting on refund from Comet now, the cheeky whatsits! Samsung confirmed that if the fault occurs again within 5 yrs of purchase they will come out and replace it again for free.
If anyone has a problem I suggest they phone Samsung rather than whoever they bought it from as they seemed to know what they talking about- Samsung referred to it as the "watchdog fault"!0 -
Hi,,Does anyone have the fault codes for the Samsung RS 21dcns.

Just wanted to add some details about our experience with a Samsung RSH1DBRS. First one we had broke down after two weeks. Engineer was called and confirmed compressor was faulty. Only offered repair but i would only accept replacement. After 3 weeks of wrangling between Boots and Samsung they finally agreed to a replacement.
The second fridge freezer was delivered on 2nd Dec and this one stopped working yesterday. I think it's a different problem as this time the unit is silent and temp is erratic.
Word of warning that in both instances the LED temp display on the front of the freezer displayed the temp as we had set it (-18 and 4) but when we turned it off and on this changed dramatically to show both were way out.
I rang Boots who we purchased the fridge freezer from and they have spoken to Samsung and agreed we can have a full refund. Maybe i am very unlucky, but i am suspicious that there is something inherently wrong with this model, as they would have never agreed to a refund so quickly.
Now i need to go away and research what brand/model to buy next. Any recommendations??0 -
Ahh...I had posted a question about other non-american -style samsung f/f as I have seen one I really like...but had read that some models had problems.
Does anyone know if these issues are just with the side by side models...or is samsung just one to AVOID/?0 -
Hi everyone this is my first post on this site and it's one of desperation. I too have a samsung side by side fridge/freezer. I'm lucky to have had mine for six years without any problems- until Sunday evening. After a family party and when the remains were stored in the fridge I noticed the temperature flashing on both fridge and freezer. This has never happened before so I pushed the power set buttons and went to bed, You can imagine the state of my food the next morning - both fridge and freezer were at room temperature. Of course all the local engineers are not available - so thank goodness for the internet and this forum. As it was totally defrosted my husband followed the excellent instructions posted on here and took off the panel but the fan seems fine. Restarted fridge/freezer and this morning it has cooled down to -29 and 4 respectively. But the problem is that I can't set a temperature ie it won't flash and allow me to set -19 and 3 which are my usual settings - does this mean the sensors in the panel are broken or is there a reset buttton somewhere I need to activate? I would really appreciate any advice from fellow posters as I've got a large family and no alternative refridgeration arrangments and no food either at present!! Many thanks.0

Phoned them yesterday and they don't want to know. The RS20 isn't included in their list and will not do anything to accept responsibility for the problems even though they are the same as for the RS21.
:mad:We need to get everyone with RS20 problems to start posting as Samsung do monitor the site.
We have had similar problems with our RS20. At the time of the BBC Watchdog report about the RS21 model, Samsung agreed to send out an engineer to us (for free) twice in 6 months to 'fix' our RS20 problem. They also said they would extend our guarantee to 5 years. On three occasions they said they would send us forms so we could claim for the cost of food lost as a result of the freezer heating up - however we never received the forms. I guess they did not want to admit a problem but just sent out the engineer to try to limit damage after the Watchdog report. Needless to say, the problem remained fixed for a couple of months and then started again.
Ever since I have kept cheap freezer thermometers in the freezer and monitor them every couple of days. Whenever the freezer heats up, I defrost it. Its a real pain and totally unsatisfactory. I will never buy Samsung again.
I remember that the week after the Watchdog program on the RS21 model, Watchdog mentioned that lots of viewers had also mentioned problems with the RS20, so its clearly very common. :mad:0 -
Has anyone bought/had a problem with the new RSG5DUMH as I've been looking at them for a while!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession
