  • Hello, I have seen lots of scenarios mentioned in this long thread, but I haven't seen anyone who was able to definitively fix there issue on there own. I am having this problem with the defrost not working and freezing everything up, and I would like to know if anyone has actually fixed this on there own.
  • Hi, my first ever thread, so please be patient and kind!
I bought a Samsung RSH1DBRS which was delivered on Saturday. I read the instruction booklet, waited the suggested 4 hours and then plugged in, I waited again before filling. First 48 hours appeared ok. I haven't connected the water line as yet as I am not very technical and am awaiting my husband coming home from abroad to do. Anyway, last night the fridge emitted a strong burning odour, prior to this all I had noticed was a slight chemical smell which I thought was due to 'new-ness'. I left fridge overnight and has been fine all day - tonight strong burning smell again! Opened fridge/freezer doors and the internal plinth that they both close onto was radiator hot, this has now cooled but seems to keep heating up. Will ring Samsung tomorrow but any ideas?
  • Not sure if this has been posted yet but Samsung have announced home visits and repairs for several of their fridge freezers, including the troubled RS21.
SAMSUNG Electronics UK today announced a programme to visit the homes of customers to resolve an issue identified in certain now-discontinued RS21 and RS60 range fridge freezers, manufactured between March 2005 and June 2006.

SAMSUNG Electronics has decided to take this action after concluding that in a minority of cases the models’ defrost system may require repair to put right a defect in its assembly. In very rare cases, there is the potential for internal sparking to occur and in consequence, damage to the appliance.

In order to administer a solution as efficiently as possible, SAMSUNG Electronics will provide a free in-home inspection and repair programme of all affected fridge freezers. As a precautionary measure, SAMSUNG will also include unaffected fridge freezers with a similar defrost system as a part of the programme for consumers’ safety and convenience.

Models affected include RS21, RS60, SN62, RSE8, RSH1 and RSJ1. Put in your product number and serial number to find out if your fridge freezer needs a safety check at the samsung website. I can't link the page - new user

  • I have seen lots of postings with problems with the Samsung American Fridge Freezer and was delighted to see the respose from Samsung at last. Phoned them yesterday and they don't want to know. The RS20 isn't included in their list and will not do anything to accept responsibility for the problems even though they are the same as for the RS21.
:mad:We need to get everyone with RS20 problems to start posting as Samsung do monitor the site.
  • I bought a RS20 3 years ago and it broke down now - however when I called Samsung, I was told that the problem I reported was similar to RS21 and therefore they will send an engineer free of cost to look into it. RS20 needs to get on the list with the other models for a home vist!
  • How very bizarre!

I have an RS20CCMS which is around 2.5 years old. It has suddenly decided to de-frost and ruin the contents of my fridge and freezer twice in the last 3 weeks.

The first time I got an engineer out but I had already cleaned out the unit and switched it off at the mains prior to his visit. He came in, plugged it in and it started working straight away.

I have just e-mailed Samsung but think I may be giving them a ring tomorrow!
  • hi ,

i also have an RS20CCMS which has given me trouble for about three years now - the fridge has finally decided to stop working and when i called samsung they told me that as i had owned the fridge for 5 years and 4 months that i could not get it repaired for free (even though they have extended their offer to cover this model ) as it had gone past their 5 year limit.

i am not happy with this as samsung have obviously produced an item that not only had a design fault but was not fit for purpose - the fact that it worked for so long was only a happy coincidence!!

come on samsung sort it out!!

  • SAMSUNG announces home-visit & repair programme for RS21 and RS60 range fridge freezers

  • i am disgusted that samsung have know about this problem for years and now have just decided to send everyone letters telling them about the problems mine has been making a noise ever since i brought mine in 2006 i just assumed that it was products on the shelves and kept rearranging the products and it eventually stopped but comes back now and again i just put it down to kids pitting stuff in wrong but now i know its due to the cooling system and have been sent a letter telling me its a potential fire risk how kind now i am gonna switch my fridge freezer off as i am worried as to a fire starting in my house while i sleep so a fridge and freezer full of food is now going to be ruined i will never by another product by samsung as they have had ages to sort out this problem and the level of communication they have given me was dreadfull i think all people with theses appliances should all write to the papers and demand a new model free of charge as im not going to be able to sleep at night with this potential fire risk wirling away while i sleep whos with me ???
  • hi ur fridge freezer is one of the fridge freezers with a fault contact samsung not that it will do the world of good tell them what has happened my advice is to leave it off till the send out an engineer and demand that they come out a.s.a.p as they will fob u off with waiting 14 days but really emphasize that u smell burning as some of the models burn internally
