Reclaimed Bank Charges SUCCESS stories

Please help, I have a current account with Barclays Bank with a £3000 overdraft and due to a poor credit history I am not able to get a loan or another account which will help me pay off the overdraft so I can open a parachute account.
According to the step by step guide I should not start reclaiming bank charges until I have safely set up another account. Is this correct?
I do have a savings account which is empty at the moment and I am taking steps to improve my credit history but this will all take time - at least a year.
Should I and can I be doing anything while I am waiting for my credit history to improve?0 -

Lots of people have reclaimed from NatWest, just stick to your guns and don't let them bully you into giving them more time. You are calling the shots.0 -
babyina wrote:Hi,
Just a quick question. My bank has closed down our account as i went on maternity leave and went overdrawn and i couldn't pay it back quick enough for them. Can i still make a claim for the charges on my account over the last 6 years even though they have now closed the account????
Thanks
if anything this is better as you wont need to have a parachute account incase they close the account - as you can see from SiBates2004 his bank has given him 3 weeks notice of closure!0 -
Nickmack - you seem to be a man in the knowhow! am I right in thinking that because credit rating takes a bashing from late payments and these blasted charges that when you have claimed the monies back you can request for the bank to put right the rating?!?!0

Bank: HSBC
Amount Reclaimed: £25
Amount they paid: £25
The story: I emailed them, using the template off this website (thanks Martin) and they have emailed me back saying "I can confirm that as a gesture of goodwill I have been able to comply with your request......":j0 -
I am claiming £253.00 from the Norwich & Peterborough. They've offered me 50% as a "goodwill gesture" and have said they are closing my account. They argue that although I don't agree with the amount of the charges, I must agree that some charge is lawful.
I won't accept 50% but would consider an amount closer to the £253.00. I'm thinking of proposing subtracting a "reasonable" amount for the charges. Each item was a cheque charge of £29.50 plus £19.50 overdraft fee. Would it be reasonable to suggest it costs them £5.00 for each item unpaid and deduct this from the £253.00.
Or should I just go for the whole lot and tell them they're lucky I'm not asking for interest?

This is a difficult one. You can have defaults removed if they were a direct consequence of charges. However they are entitled to record late payments on your credit record. It's not the fact that you've paid late that's being disputed, it's the unlawful charge associated with it. If the charges have resulted in you exceeding limits and this has been recorded on your credit record, you may be able to get his remedied, although it's not an easy process. I'll see if I can dig out any information for you.0 -
