PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTS0 -
:T Sent a claim for 2k, received an offer letter of £750 within 2 weeks, declined and called a number given on the offer letter, spoke over the phone to one of the banks reps and talked it through, said that for me to accept, the minimum I will accept is 75%, taking into consideration there time etc, they accepted 75% so I am happy enough with that, as an earlier person said, I didnt have it and its a bonus, especially to start the new year off with some money in the bank.....
Just so that people know, I used the 1st letter template, received an offer, then sent the 2nd letter and called the number and sorted it out on the phone... Although, when I sent the 1st letter and prior to the offer letter, the bank called me and offered £750, which I declined and they would not move from that amount, until I sent the 2nd letter....
Happy enough with 75% back........:j
Best wishes for xmas and new year to everyone....:money:
Keep going to all those claiming back.....
will start to chase up my HSBC one now, they still havent replied....0 -
Hi guys, I'd love to know what is classed as an unlawful bank charge.
For example - If I go over my overdraft by £1 and they charge me £25 for it then that is unfair. But if I go over my overdraft by say £20 and they charge me £20, is that then fair?
I've submitted a claim to HSBC for £355 and await their response but on the whole, most of my charges have been levied on going overdrawn by more than the charged amount?
Cheers

Both of the charges you list are unfair. It's not the amount you go overdrawn that qualifies whether the charge is fair or not. It is whether the bank is charging you what it cost them, and not using it as a fine. Don't forget that the bank will also charge you interest on your overdrawn money, so they are still gaining from this. You can't claim back the interest, but if it didn't cost them £20 to send you a letter to notify you that you are overdrawn, then this is an unfair (and unlawful) charge. By law, they are only allowed to charge you what it costs them. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Hello,
I plan to reclaim charges from two HSBC current accounts. These were closed around 18 months ago at which point I set up a current account (and joint account with my girlfriend) with First Direct. I still have a joint account with my brother at HSBC.
If I make a claim (likely to be around £1000):
- are they likely to close my HSBC joint account?
- being the parent company, are they likely to close my First Direct accounts?
- will claiming affect my chances of applying for a mortgage at other providers in the future?
Thank you!0 -

because the other accounts are on different contracts they will not be able to close these - as for getting a mortgage it shouldnt affect you getting one unless you chose to go through HSBC!0 -
Dear Members
I have received my 6 years of charges from First Direct/HSBC using your template & £10 fee. In 1995 I went to work abroad and the bank closed my current account whilst I was away and against my wishes as I had left £50.00 in it. They never gave me the money when they closed it. I only found out upon my return in 1998 & they would not re-open my account until I had untility bills etc
Eventually I re-opened the account ( should have changed banks) but they never refunded my money. Can I claim this back even though it is beyond 6years?
Also can I claim back the interest on my current account as First Direct was suppose to be Free Banking?
Many thanks
