I have been reading through most of what you all have been saying and have found it a great help.
I am trying to make a claim from Abbey, I sent Martin's 1st and second letters, I had a responce only to the first (my request for the last six years worth of bank charges) same as most i have seen on here " only 14 months worth available the rest on microfish or something like that. Anyway i received the 14 months worth of copy statements, most of which I already had at home and I noticed that some of the duplicate statments they sent me
did NOT show the charges that were on my original statments.
Also a question now:
I have four small children so do not have the time (or peace) to do this on my own, so I found a company online called Claimback that say they do all the work for you (no win no fee) because they QUOTE:
"Because we charge the banks interest at their unarranged borrowing rate on your charges (typically 29%), our fee comes out of the interest, you get all your charges plus a bit extra. As long as the majority of your charges are older than 12 months, it doesn't cost you a penny."
is this another scam or could they really help me. I would have to sign somthing so they can talk to my bank for me.
Any advice would be great.
Hi
I don't know anything about the company, but I would say that the process is quite simple and doesn't really take that long if you copy everything from the precedent letters on here or the CAG website. If you can find a little bit of time here and there (not sure you could with four, I struggle finding peace with one sometimes!) you could manage it on your own.
I'm sure someone else will know of the company.
Good luck anyway.

Hello
I got a reply from First Direct today regarding the claim we put in for bank charges .. Claim amount was £1030.22p they have offered us £800 we have excepted its gonna come in very handy for xmas.. its only taken us 2 weeks from the first letter being sent
A good result we think.
GOOD LUCK TO THE REST OF YOU0 -
Sent a a copy of Martins template letter.... minus the part about enclosing £10 because I do not have a cheque book;)
Received a reply that they are going to forward all my statements,
Will i be charged for them i wonder?0 -
Amount claimed: £60
Amount awarded: £87
Capital One charged me for a interest charge taking me over my limit, I was then charged for a late payment fee even though I pay by direct debit, then charged another two times.
I wrote to them using your templates and they stated that all of the terms and conditions are given before you sign the contract blah, blah, blah but as a gesture of goodwill they refunded the £60 plus an additional £27 that had been charged on the account between the date of my letter and the date of their reply. :j :j
Have now decided to go after the Halifax... we were with them 13 years and for the first 6 or 7 years everything was good but then we were getting charged for stupid things left, right and centre, with a charge upon a charge... finally we changed our account to a different bank, although the Halifax managed to get in another 3 charges before we left them. I estimate that the amount of charges will be at least £300 but my husband reckons it could be close to £1000. I will let you know when I get the print out!!
Good luck to everyone and thanks for all the handy hints and tips, I would have never considered doing this if my sister hadn't emailed me a link to this website!!Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
30lb lost of 30lb by June 2012 :j:j:j (80lb overall goal)0 -

Thank you so much MSE Martin and everyone here - this has really lifted my spirits.

Halifax
£284 claimed
£200 received
My wife claimed £284, and the bank replied to her first letter with a phone call and offered £160, declaring that they would not pay the fulla mount and that she should take them to court if she wishes. She refused and settled for £200 which they agreed to straight away.
Halifax
£401 claimed
£345 received
I claimed £345 charges and £56 interest. I received a letter offering me £269. I phoned them and they gave me the old flannel that they gave my wife.
I said that the offer was unnacceptable and that I wanted the full amount. I was told that they would not honour the interest so I said that I wanted the £345 charges in full. They agreed straight away.
Don't be put off, claim the full charges from Halifax.

First direct
£488 Claimed including interest
£442 Paid
First Direct offered me payment within 2 days of getting my first letter. Although they took off £26 for fees they said they had already repaid.
They also included £105 for fees they were going to add to my account next month. So really I lost the interest I was charging. Excepted the payment.
Very , very easy to do.0 -
