    result...
  • Hi everyone

    SUCCESS!
    Claimed: £1334
Refunded: £1334 plus two pending charges chancelled!

I thought I would never get to this stage, but at last Nationwide have paid up in full!!

I was claiming on behalf of my son. We started the process in February, and followed Martin's guide to the letter. The claim went to the Court stage with MCOL. Nationwide said that they would defend, but the day before the 28 days was up they made an almighty blunder and refunded charges relating to my personal account to me (even though I did not make a claim). They haave now taken that money away from me (lucky I didnt spend it!) and they have refunded my son's charges to him. The court costs and interest charges will follow.

Needless to say, I am now going to claw back my charges from them.

Would like to say a HUGE thanks you to Martin. The advice on the site is excellent and easy to follow.
Anyone who has any reservations about doing this has nothing to worry about...go for it!!

    Success :j

    Two stories to tell:

Norwich and Peterborough - old account, closed for a year £39.00 paid back after two letters.

    Alliance and Leicester
    £295.00

Fantastic result, all charges + interest and court costs. Never got to court, all three letters and one more confirming I was taking them to court. They just said no! Moneyclaim used to take them to court, they acknowledged service and ticked the 'defend' box. They still had nearly 28 days to go but they sent me a cheque today :rotfl: :rotfl:

Don't think the party is over yet though, in the A & L letter they sent with the cheque there is this paragraph

"As it is clear that you do not accept the terms and conditions for the operation of your account we will shortly be contacting you to discuss it's future operation"

I will post another message when they contact me so everyone can be ready for the same old baloney.

Thank you to everyone who helped and to you too MSE, you are the best

  • I didn't think this would work, but I am happy to report that it has!!!

    Bank: Bank of Scotland
    Amount Reclaimed: £55.29
    Amount they paid: £55!
    The story:

It may seem like a really small amount but I'm a student and £50 is really a lot to me right now! But it also just goes to show that any amount can be claimed! The reason I felt so hard done by was because, on the first occasion, I was overdrawn by the measly amount of £4.81 and I felt that hardly justified the £20 charge! What made it even worse was that I didn't even have an over draft at the time so shouldn't my card have just been declined?!

Anyway, so glad they paid up but they still refuse to accept resonsibility and say that the £55 is a gesture of 'goodwill'... yeah right! Who thinks I should chase my 29p?!

    THANKS AGAIN MARTIN!!!
  • Bank - Co-operative

    Amount claimed - £365
    Amount they paid - £365
    :j
Co-op paid after the first letter - couldn't believe it, said that it was a 'good will gesture' and they wanted to know how they could improve their services.

Got paid out within 14 days, very pleased.

Am still going through a claim with Alliance and Leicester and have had to take them to court.

Thanks Martin, without your guidance, I wouldn't have had the confidence to do this

Hi peeps - thought I'd already put my success on here, but after checking can see I didn't.

    BANK: Nat West
    AMOUNT: £2,253
    PAID: £2,253

I started my claim mid-August after finding this site. At first the Nat West were adamant the charges were both fair and lawful, so I had to go all the way to the on-line court stage. I was awaiting a date for my local court when one morning as I was getting off the train in Leeds to go to work, my DH phoned me. "You've got a letter from the Nat West" he said. I just had a feeling and said to him " They've paid up haven't they?" That was November 5th, so from start to finish it took 3 months. There were times when I wondered if I was doing the right thing and worried in case they took it all the way to court, but everyone on here kept me going, reassuring me and I'm so glad they did! That money came in very handy ;)

Wooooooooooooooo, I am so happy, I thought I would be the one that went to court and lost.

My story; My partner heard Martin on a radio programme talking about reclaiming bank charges and the website. I thought it was too good to be true:o
Started process in January 07, got standard reply from Stuart Higley asking for more time, after 2nd letter and an attempt by me to resolve the matter via the telephone ( without success) I started M.C.O.L.

It has taken a while Cobblers sent a complex and long defence:mad: I sent them and the court a letter which detailed why I felt there defence was intimidaroty and vexatious:D . I was struggling to find the second lot of fees to pay for the court hearing. I took a cheque into the court on Wednesday ( I had until the 30th before the case was dismissed).

Today I got home to a letter from Cobblers saying "Our client believes they will win the case..blah blah..however the legal fees will outweigh the the value of the claim...Yada yada, heres a cheque for £3,908.09":j :T :j :T

So I want to say a great big thank you to Martin:A , and all the people who have helped me on this site:A . I really could not have done it without you all:T :T Thanks all:beer:

    With love

    LLOYDS TSB

Won by default £1500, including interest.

Lloyds TSB acknowledged claim, and said that they would be defending it. It never happened, so i requested judgement.

Thats £3000 from Natwest (took just 1 letter), and £1500 from Lloyds TSB.

    Hi All

    Bank: Halifax
    Total Charges: £1649.00
Total Received: £2208.00 (this includes court fee and interest added once it got to court)

Wrote first letter requesting info on charges in mid January, after some stalling and a goodwill gesture offer of £713.00 at the beginning of April (which i ignored) Halifax still weren't keeping to the timetable as set out in my letters (from the templates - thank you Martin & everyone here!) so i just kept on with it, took them to court via moneyclaim, they didnt acknowledge service so i won by default, Halifax paid out within 3 days of the judgement, nice and easy, if a little nerve wracking!

I found the best advice is as published on this site:
    Follow the step-by-step guide
    Send all letters recorded delivery
Maintain your timetable not the bank's
Check at each stage that you've got your figures an procedure correct
Don't get drawn in by the bank's offers to discuss it over the telephone with you - keep to the letters and the plan!

I'm going to start on reclaiming Halifax Visa charges next!!:j

Thank you for all the help, good luck everyone :T
