    Hello All,

Just successfully claimed £196 & £318 back on my two Natwest current accounts after a mere two letters!

However, just been charged £28 by Natwest this morning!!! I'm going to call them now and ask them where I managed to go over drawn this month because I know I haven't!

  • Bank: Halifax
Amount reclaimed: £780.55 (including interest and £80 court fee)
    Amount received: £780.55

The Story: Wrote to bank using template in early December, received them and sent off letter for reclaiming charges mid December. I received a letter within a week to say that they are sorry but charges are due to me not running my account properly so they couldnt refund them! I ignored this, and sent letter to threaten court action, this was ignored by the bank so I filed a claim with Moneyclaim online. They defended the case on 16/2/07 so I was waiting the 28 days, only to use telephone banking on 26/2/07 and find that £780.55 had been deposited into my bank account!!!! I received the letter from the bank yesterday to say that although they do not admit liability, that they have (in this instance) refunded the charges and hope that I can run my bank account correctly in future in order to avoid charges!!!!

So chuffed that I took the time to start this process - Thank you Martin... a fantastic and easy to use procedure!

I was quite cynical at the start, i must admit, but i felt i had nothing to lose. It wasnt until I paid court costs that I was out of pocket but now i have those back within the claim so the past few months have been well worth it!!! ;D ;D ;D

Not bad huh? Although there's no reference to any charges being made for this service, despite what I put in my message authorising them to deduct a fee upto the value of £10... [/I]

I just came on here to relate that HSBC had replied and advised the same thing ;)

In all the time I've been online banking I had never realised that and assumed that it only went back the two months transactions you could access on line. :o

At least HSBC had the grace to advise me that I would be charged £10 for the old statements, but gave me the option of first seeing whether I wanted to use the facility you have described, so I'm £10 better off than I thought :).

I've now gone through all my last six years worth of statements copying and pasting (using ALT C and ALT V ) into a spreadsheet.
  • Do Abbey think we're all halfwits?

On Friday of last week I knew I had a DD due, I didn't have the funds in (I don't get paid till tomorrow) but I borrowed the money from a friend and deposited the cash as soon as the bank opened on Friday morning. I left the branch thinking everything was fine.

I then get a letter from them this morning, telling me that I didn't have the funds in my account to make the payment:confused:

Upon calling their Customer (dis)service call centre, I was advised that the money should have been in my account at 00:01hrs of the day the DD was due, as that is when Abbey make the payment (or try to)

I have never heard anything more ridiculous in my life, no other bank I deal with operates in this way, anyone else heard of this?
  • Banks make up their own rules, I used to bank with Alliance & Leicester, untill they really started to get on my nerves, I did internet banking & would everynight check the balance, on a few occasions it showed me that my partners wages had gone into the account (showing no D/D or S/O that had come out) & then a few days later I would get letters from them sayin that D/D & S/O had come out of the account which had no funds in, when I looked at the bank statements they showed that the D/D & S/O had come out before the wages had gone. I have now started proceedings to get back all the money that they have took of me in the last 6 years. Because of the way they do things I have got my self in to quite a bit of debt, they constantly took money out of my account which meant bills, HP, Loans, rent etc etc didnt get paid, On a few occasions over £500.00 per month was taken out in charges. I shut down the account and i have been dealing with Citizens Advice Bureau for the past year on repaying all of my debts, including all the money that is still owed on my A&L account, I will love taking back my money off them, automatically writing off 1 debt as I am paying them for money that they owe me, and I can pay off a few other debts with the money that I WILL WIN BACK OFF OF THEM. By 2012 I will be debt free, Might be a bit sooner now. Fingers Crossed
