The reply informs me that they have 8 weeks to respond but they will send me an update after 4 weeks.
can anybody tell me if i should stick to the timescales on the website and stated in the template letters or allow them a bit of slack??

Hi, Just Wanted To Let People Know My Success With First Direct,
Back In Novenber Got My First Bank Charge Of £55, Things Are Pretty Tight So This Left Me Short And Got Into The Vicious Circle Of Bank Charges, Im In The Middle Of Fighting Bank Charges For My Son And Barclays So Did Not Really Want To Have Two Claims Going At The Same Time So I Gave First Direct A Ring Today At 12.00pm , Spoke To A Chap In The " Reclaim Bank Charge" Depatment, Said I Was Not Happy About The Charges, they Had Amounted To £320 Since November, He Tried To Say They Were Just Etc, So I Said I Know They Are Not And Was Hoping I Wouldnt Have To Go Down The Claim Route As Im In The Middle Of A Claim For My Son, He Agreed To Look Into My Complaint.
12.25 Pm Call From First Direct, They Looked Back At There Charges And Agreed That They Had Taken A Total Of £320, Did I Have A Figure I Was Hoping To Get Back, All Of Them I Said Because If I Claimed It Would Cost Them More In The Long Run With Interest Etc. He Said He Would Call Me Back.
12.35 Call From First Direct, Offered Full Amount, Credited To Account Straight Away.
Wowwwwwwww, Not Bad For A Couple Of Phone Calls.
Good Luck Everyone Else, Just Barclays For £1068 For My Son Now

If you want your charges back as soon as possible, stick to the timetable and ask yourself this: How much slack did the bank give me when applying these charges?0 -

Apologies if this question has been answered before (I know it has been asked but can't find a response). I have a current account with HBOS which is currently 300 overdrawn (authorised limit reached). Now, about a year and a half ago I got in a bit of a mess with money and hid my head in the sand, carried on writing cheques and subsequently was nailed with loads of charges. I've since got it sorted out and the account has been run perfectly for the last year or so but I'm still using the od facility. Now, Dh and I have a basic joint account with them also which has no od, cheque book, visa debit etc just an electron card and all our dd's and so's go from there. Both our salaries, CTC and CHB get paid into it. I use the current account in my name for paying bills to providers who won't accept electron and the occasional cheque (I transfer monies to cover each transaction).
My worry is if I claim the charges back which were issued on my current account can they or are they likely to close our joint account? It would seem very unfair on my dh who will not be claiming any charges back to be penalised for my muddle with money on a different account.
I am off to investigate a parachute account for myself, I can clear my od by putting it on my M&SMore CC as a bt with the 3.9% lof (I presume?) Assuming HBOS are going to be underhand and close our joint acc would removing my name from it help......?0 -
i had written my first letter requesting my bank account charges (3682.00) from halifax on the 6th of february, within two days i received a reply saying that they are unable to process my request as they have the right on the charges, and if i do not agree to them, i should re write to them within eight weeks.
So, i re wrote to them on the 12th of february mentioning to them that i do not agree to them, and i claim through the court within fourteen days if i do not get a sattisfactore response to my letter. I then received another reply on the 14th february saying that they have passed on my letter to the customer relations dept who will write to me shortly.
on the fourteenth day, i phoned them up to find out what was happening, and the told me that it takes up to eight weeks for their decision and they have a right on it. i mentioned this website to the lady i spoke to, but she said 14 days is very less for them to take a decision. i also told her that im going to claim through the court and she said 'i can do, if i want to, its up to me'.
Somebody help what should i do? should i wait eight weeks? that would mean waiting untill 4th april or should i start the process to claim through the court now?0 -
Hi, im new to this so please forgive me if I have placed this in the wrong section. I am currently in the process of reclaiming my bank charges and have sent off the first template letter asking for my statements from the last 6 yrs. The question I want to ask however is for my sister. She has just declared herself bankrupt today. This has come about from simple bank charges from her account with halifax. It started with 1 charge and because she was on benefits at the time did not have money to cover it,it then snowballed from their and she resulted in getting a loan out etc to try to clear up her financial situation as best she could. Unfortunately she has had Bailiffs etc knocking at her home and phoning left right and centre. She could not stand there pressure any more and went bankrupt. I feel sorry for her as she has a 6 yr old and a 6 week old. They have taken her car etc, but my real question is, Although Halifax closed her account with them today because of the bankruptcy CAN SHE STILL CLAIM back her bank charges or not. Dont know if her situation is differnt because of the bankruptcy or not.
I would be grateful if some one could help with this. If she is entitled to claim charges back I will get the ball rolling for her. (she deserves it after what she's been through). But wanted to check first0 -
Hi im new to this website soplese bear with me.Sent inital letter to the Royal bank of Scotland this morning requesting statements. Had statements dated back form july 2005 and calculated they owe me just over £1000. Im interested to see how much they will actually owe from the 5 year period.I have two questions. How easy are the RBos to deal with and if it happens to go to court obviously i cant take it to the small claims as it will be over £750. What court would deal with thisi live in the glasgow area.I have tried to research as much as i could to cover any eventuality but would appreciate help form people in Scotland as obviously cases in England and Wales are different0

wow - this is all getting much more complicated than i need... im just looking to dispute charges HSBC have made on my account in the last month... im not worried about the interest or any other charges...
its now making sense what the woman on the phone at HSBC was saying to me.. she started talking about sending in copies of all bank statements and such and i was confused as the charges im disputing are all on one statement and havent even been charged yet... this sort of thing must be happening a lot as they were already prepared...0
