When you open up a current account you normally have to credit a minimum amount into the account each month - OK fair enough.

However, if you open a new account and your existing banker does not 'send you packing' how do you deal with the parachute account that you've now opened.

Have a look at the Basic Bank Account thread on the Budgeting and Current Accounts board for a simple account you can just have if necessary.

I changed banks a little over a year ago due to the high bank charges occasionally incurred. I still have the statements for quite a few years back. Can i attempt to reclaim charges even though i no longer have an account with the bank?

You can claim on a closed account six years from now so that would be about five years. If you have all the statements you can just start with the first letter. Have a read of Martin's article and the Reclaim Help Thread both linked in my signature.
  • Can anyone help i am claiming on three accounts 1 with RBS and 2 with HBOS anyway 1st letter to RBS away and coming close to the 14 days now so 1st Q... Do i send the 2nd letter or do i wait for a reply from RBS if 14 days expire

2nd Q with HBOS they state they have not recieved my letters for DPA i sent 2 recorded delivery with 2 £10 postal Orders i have proof they have recieved them but they are now investigating and state they have 8 weeks to do this from the date the complaint was raised so if they take the full 8 weeks i will have waited nearly 11 weeks just to get an answer anyone help please.

And keep loosing messages and threads so if you can help can you send me a private message dont know whats happening but even when i set up a favorite to my message or thread and go back in 24hrs later cant find it.

So please if you can send me a private message with either a link to a reply or just a reply.

Thanks again by the way FAB SITE

so, the noly thing I really need to send the bank are a list of charges I'm claiming for?

Yes, make sure you have provided a list of charges. Your particulars of claim seem fine, so it appears RBS solicitors are trying to initimdate you. Their requests are for information they already have.

  • Hello everyone, i have been reading the info about claiming bank charges but have not seen any details about whether late payment fees can be claimed for. Credit card companies charge the same level of penalty for paying a couple of days late as the banks for overdrawing etc but are these also unlawful if i haven't paid on time? They are still unreasonably extortionate so i'd love to get my money back if poss. but don't want to send cheques for £10to each of them if it's not a valid claim. thanks in anticipation of a favourable response. Please look at the Reclaim Help thread in my signature and you will see Late Payment Fees there.
