Anybody know of Direct Line's general customer complaints correspondence address? They have promised to pay our bank charges with the Halifax due to a bank transfer they had promised us didn't go through on the right day due to a system breakdown, causing us to go over our overdraft limit.

By the way Halifax were going to charge us £148 for going over our overdraft limit for two days. This was in respect of 4 transactions incurring costs of £30 each and then the standard monthly unauthorised overdraft charge of £28. My husband went into the branch and they are reducing it to £58 - refunding us in effect £90 of the charges on the spot. Hopefully we will get the remaining £58 via Direct Line as it is their fault in the first place! Just need the correct address to get the ball rolling with them.

  • Hi, I have just trawled through my bank statements and Natwest owe in the region of £1200, I know you cannot claim the interest but I am going to try it. I have a good reason for this, when Natwest sent my statements to me they arrived in a envelope which was ripped to shreds and in a clear plastic wallet from Royal Mail and all statements were mixed up, I am using this as "fire power" with this bank stating this is totally unacceptable as anyone could now access my account as they could have my bank ac, sort code, address and my full name!!

Just would like some views on this issue, do you reckon I have a chance???

I ditched Natwest precisely because they were charging me so much in late charges etc. Are they still obliged to do all of this even if I no longer bank with them?

We've been serially crap with bouncing cheques for well over a decade - be great if there was gold in them there hills!

I ditched Barclays for same reason 3 years ago, so I too would like to know whether they are still liable for the charges they levied on me while I banked with them. Please can someone reply with the answer, cheers Piers

My personal view is there is no need for "fire power" use the letters and put in your claim following the tried and tested route. You can claim for the interest but the bank is under no obligation to add this to any offer unless you get to the court stage.

and it would appear your complaint is with Royal Mail.

If you mean can you claim on a closed account, yes you can.
  • i have been banking now with natwest for 6 months and have had no trouble untill monday..
on monday i had 3 dd's come out and unfortuantley there was not enough funds in the account to pay and as it was a weekend i couldnt go in and make a payment. On monday morning i went into the bank and put the money in to cover the dd's with a few quid left to spare. Now today i have recieved a letter saying i have been charged £117 (£38 each)for returned dd,and the dd have not been paid. i live on a soicial security money and i am 3 weeks form having my second baby and im now worried as im now in arrears.i was told that the charges would not come out untill next month, but they have already been taken, leaving me in more debt.i have been charged £38 for a £9 dd which i feel is unjust.
I rang natwest and they wasnt happy to help and basically told me the money had been taken, the dd have not been paid and im still in arrears. Im worried as i have been charged £117 for dd's that only total £69 and the money was in the account by 9.30am

    please help me,any suggestions

I'm afraid this is typical of many banks. You need to follow the guide (link in my signature)
  • Bank - Halifax

Amount Claimed - £4,853 plus interest (total £6,300)

    Amount Achieved - £4,250

I started out the claim in early January and got my first offer of just over £3000 on the 31st January. I called back and refused today (offer only arrived on Monday because of a postal error - not the Halifax's mistake) and managed to get it upped to £4,250. I would have held out for the lot and taken court action etc., but was worried that current major media coverage might lead to banks getting more beligerent ... hey I am £4,250 richer than yesterday!!

Thanks for the brilliant step by step guide!:rotfl:
